We’ve seen collabs from within boybands before (such as Jordan Knight’s “Stingy” feat Donnie Wahlberg), but this is the first cross-boyband duo in history.  Since NKOTBSB was pretty much the greatest thing that has ever happened in the history of boybands, we are beyond thrilled for Nick & Knight!

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 2nd at 10am local time.  And don’t forget NKOTBSB are a close knit bunch – you never know who could stop by your show!  When we saw Jordan Knight in NYC, Donnie Wahlberg & Jonathan Knight stopped by.

Backstreet Boys vs *NSYNC Feud in 2014: Why Can’t We All Get Along?

Back in the late 90s and early aughts, the Backstreet Boys vs *NSYNC feud was a very real thing. Across the world, middle school girls everywhere (OK and elementary, high school and college..) pledged their allegiance to one boy band, and one alone. This was even more serious than choosing a faction in Divergent. Did you prefer JT’s crunchy bleached curls? Or Nick’s platinum bowl cut?   It was one or the other, you couldn’t have both.

We always (not so) secretly loved both bands. If anyone asked it was all about *NSYNC, but we loved Backstreet just as much and still do. I guess you could say that we are Divergent: we are simply not made to love just one boy band. Each group offered something different: where would we be without JC hitting that note in “Bye Bye Bye?”   And Nick in “I Want It That Way?”

We loved *NSYNC’s dance moves and swag (it takes guts to pull off a down vest filled with cash and silver lipstick) and Backstreet Boys harmonies and over the top music videos.

But it’s not 1999 anymore, it’s 2014.  Can’t we all just get along?  There is more than enough boy band love to go around!

You can catch Backstreet Boys on their In a World Like This Tour across North America this summer, as well as Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 World Tour!  And you know we are never giving up hope for that *NSYNC reunion tour…

Be sure to follow *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and each and every boy band that is your fire and one true desire on Twitter for more updates!

Fangirl Book Club: Out of Sync by Lance Bass

After the *NSYNC reunion at the VMAS (our favorite moment of 2013!) we couldn’t get enough of them. Thanks to YouTube, the Disney *NSYNC special is easily found, as is their Madison Square Garden concert (although we have that one on DVD) and this video which was released only in Europe, “Drive Me Crazy.”

Which led us to finally reading Lance Bass’ memoir, the perfectly titled “Out of Sync.” This book is a must read for any *NSYNC fan, as it reveals much about the boys’ climb to fame, the truth about that Backstreet Boys feud, and how Lance managed to handle screaming girls throwing themselves at him every night (easy: he just wasn’t interested).

Here’s what we learned from reading.

1. The Backstreet Boys vs *NSYNC feud was totally fake and orchestrated by Lou Pearlman, who would make up things to tell each band. (“Chris Kirpatrick said AJ McLean couldn’t sing!”)

2. Lance Bass once ripped up a $100,000 check and walked out of a meeting. Why? They’d had the number one album for weeks and had been touring non stop yet Pearlman was keeping most of the profits for himself as the “sixth member of the band.”

3. Lance went through a LOT of training to go into space. For starters, he had voluntary heart surgery to fix a minor problem. He also spent months learning rocket science in Russia, meaning he had to go through all of his training in Russian. Now, THAT’S dedication!!

4. Unfortunately due to networks pulling out and taking away funding (“it just wouldn’t look good for our sponsors if you died”) and JT’s continual delays of the bands’ reunion as he worked on his solo album, Lance never made it to space. We’re hoping now that space tourism is a thing, he’ll finally get the chance to go!

5. Chris and JT were the biggest ladies men on the road.

6.  Before *NSYNC, JT and JC, who knew each other from the Mickey Mouse Club, were working on a project as a duo when they got a call from Chris Kirkpatrick.  (Can this still happen?)

7.  We can all thank Chris Kirkpatrick for getting rejected from the Backstreet Boys and going on to form *NSYNC.

Grab your copy on Amazon today!  While you impatiently wait for that *NSYNC reunion, be sure to check out Justin Timberlake on tour!

First Look: “Girl Meets World”

We’ve been majorly fangirling since we first heard the announcement that one of our favorite shows of all time, “Boy Meets World,” was getting a sequel!

We finally have the first look at the new series, “Girl Meets World,” which follows Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley.

The series is sure to be a hit with everyone who remembers watching the show growing up, and if it’s anything like the original, we’re sure a new generation of fans will follow.

It seems 90s nostalgia is at an all time high this year, but hey we’re not complaining!  (Perfect conditions for an *NSYNC reunion, right?)

Still no word on the premiere date, but the show has already been ordered for a full season!   We’ll definitely be tuning in to see Cory and Topanga.  And fingers crossed Shawn & Eric will be making an appearance or two!

Throwback Thursday: Iconic Late 90s Videos

There is no denying that the 90s are back in a big way this year.  We’ve seen more flannel shirts, Doc Martens, crop tops and floral platform sneakers than we have in years.  We are 90s girls, so the music of this time period will always hold a special place in our hearts, especially the videos we remember watching and calling in to vote for on TRL.  Remember when MTV played music?

Check out our list of the most iconic videos of the late 90s .. Who would you vote for on TRL today?

1.  All the Small Things – Blink 182

2.  I Want it That Way – Backstreet Boys

3. Oops I Did it Again – Britney Spears

4. Give it To You – Jordan Knight

5. Heartbreaker – Mariah Carey feat. Jay Z

6. Bye Bye Bye – *NSYNC

7. The Boy is Mine – Brandy & Monica

8.  The Real Slim Shady – Eminem

Forgotten Boybands Who Should Reunite in 2014

It’s been an amazing couple of years for boyband aficionados such as ourselves.  It all started when NKOTBSB (that’s New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, duh) announced they would be joining forces for a tour in 2011 (arguably the best tour of our entire lives).  The next year, 98 Degrees reunited!   We still aren’t sure if the t-shirt we got at their Mixtape Festival show has a picture taken in 2002 or 2012.  They’ve aged EXTREMELY well.  And of course 2013 brought us the Package Tour: NKOTB, 98 Degrees, AND Boyz II Men.  What more could a boyband fangirl ask for?  Well then we got the greatest gift of all: NSYNC REUNITING AT THE VMAs (yes, we have to write this in all caps every time we mention it, because OMG!)  We should actually thank Big Time Rush for all of these boyband reunions, because they brought boybands back.  Alright?

While we impatiently wait for that NSYNC reunion tour, which unfortunately doesn’t look possible for this summer as Justin Timberlake will still be out on his 20/20 Experience World Tour, we thought about which OTHER boybands could reunite in 2014 to fill the void…

1.  5ive – They were the original Simon Cowell boyband.  Their first single, “Slam Dunk (Da Funk)” debuted at number 10 in the UK, but had little success in the United States. Their second single, “When The Lights Go Out” was certified Gold in 1998. They made a few bad decisions along the way, like turning down a song called “Bye Bye Bye…”

Who can forget their iconic choreographed dance scene cameo in Disney’s “Smart House”

2.  2ge+her – Okay, so they were created as a joke but they’re still iconic in boyband history. We still find ourselves breaking out into their hit song “U + Me = Us (Calculus)”

3.  BBMak
Remember when they were on Even Stevens?  Pretty sure “Back Here” was also played on every single WB show.

4. O-Town
Apparently, this is already actually happening.  They recently launched a Twitter page and keep hinting at future music.

5. LMNT
We wanted to share the official music video here, because it’s amazing, but someone has managed to faceblock it from the internet.  In summary: the boys bring a boom box to the laundromat and dance around in their muscle tanks.

6. Dream Street
Baby.  JMAC.

7. LFO
Otherwise known as the Lyte Funky Ones, they made it impossible for a generation to say “Abercrombie & Fitch” without thinking of this song.  (or is that just us?)

8. The Original Menudo
with Ricky Martin.  If you’re into these pants, you can buy them now at American Apparel!  In the women’s department.

menudo-5

9. Boyzone
We’ve actually never heard of them before, but this is an amazing name, so yes.

10.  The Moffatts
This band has FOUR brothers!

11. S Club 7
This isn’t strictly a boyband, but they are still awesome.  Remember their show on ABC Family?

But really, WE JUST WANT AN *NSYNC REUNION!!  Please?

Shows We Need on Netflix

We’ve basically been hibernating lately since we want to avoid this awful winter as much as possible. That means cranking up the heat, baking cookies, and marathoning 90s TV shows.  Netflix and Hulu have a pretty good selection but there are some major omissions. Here’s what we’d like to see added, preferably before spring hits and we start spending our time outside again.

1. Boy Meets World – With the “Girl Meets World” premiere happening sometime this year (really Disney?  You still can’t give us a date?)  it’s only fitting that we get a chance to catch up on the classic series first.  We’ve been missing this show ever since ABC Family stopped airing it weekday mornings (it was the perfect get-ready for work show).

2. Gilmore Girls – Every other long running WB series is on Netflix (“Dawson’s Creek,” “Roswell,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “One Tree Hill..”).  Except for “Gilmore Girls.”  And “Felicity.”  We love this show for it’s smart, fast dialogue and wit, and for bringing Adam Brody into our lives for the first time.

3. Summerland – A show that stars a pre-High School Musical Zac Efron (he still had a gap!), Jesse McCartney, Becky from Full House, and Kay Panabaker?  And takes place in a California beach town, where it’s permanently summer?  Sign us up.  The show sadly lasted for only 2 seasons but managed to pack a lot of drama in.

4. Young Americans – This show was billed as a “Dawson’s Creek” spinoff, somehow, as it follows a guest-star with a 2-episode arc (Will Krudski, Pacey’s childhood friend) to a prestigious boarding school in New England.  It also stars a young Kate Bosworth and pre-Vampire Diaires Ian Somerholder.  The show, which takes place during the summer and aired as a summer replacement for “Dawson’s Creek” in 2000, only lasted for 8 episodes but brings us warm memories all the same.  I mean just look at the show’s opening credits – it’s basically an Abercrombie & Fitch ad.

5. Bunheads – Another show by “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, which features the same snappy dialogue, pop-culture references, and many of the actors.  This show was brilliant, funny, and heartwarming all at once, so obviously it was canceled way before it should have been.   Maybe the network execs just couldn’t keep up with the dialogue?

Honorable mention:  The OC – It never occurred to us that “The OC” should be on Netflix because OBVIOUSLY we own all 4 seasons of the greatest show of all time on DVD.  (And season 1 is practically falling apart due to overuse)  But we just realized that it’s not on Netflix and/or Hulu, and it’s a shame for anyone who doesn’t own it.

Brush Up on Your Winter Sports Movies in Time for the Olympics!

The 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia are just around the corner (seriously, they start tomorrow!) and with the sudden influx of snow in the city, if we aren’t in the park sledding and having snowball fights…we’re parked on the couch with hot chocolate (and tea) watching our favorite winter sports themed movies!

1. The Mighty Ducks Trilogy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZR9SQj272Y
This film franchise was the reason we dusted off our in-line skates in the summer, and made us want to join the hockey team in the winter. Starring Joshua Jackson as Charlie Conway and Emilio Estevez as Coach Gordon Bombay, and Kenan Thompson as Russ Tyler, The Mighty Ducks movies follow a rag-tag team of misfits navigating their way through peewee hockey, the Junior Goodwill Games, and eventually high school.  And let’s not forget the original Banksy aka Adam Banks, who reluctantly joined the team mid-season but eventually became a full-fledged Duck.  Quack Quack Quack!

2. Genius

Charlie Boyle is Chaz Anthony. Chaz Anthony is Charlie Boyle. They’re the same person. Except Charlie wears glasses and a lab coat while Chaz dons a leather jacket and spikey hair. Hannah Montana before there was Hannah Montana! Charlie is a science nerd trying to defy gravity (he’s in college and he isn’t even 14). When he starts to tutor a beautiful girl named Clair (played by Emmy Rossum) Charlie enrolls in the local high school, reinventing himself as a bad boy slacker – Chaz Anthony. The movie follows Charlie’s struggles of living a double life and how you can defy gravity while playing ice hockey!

3. Cool Runnings

“If enough people say they can believe, Jamaica, we got a bobsled team!” Cool Runnings is loosely based off the true story of the first Jamaican bobsled team made up of the fastest sprinters in Jamaica.  It’s also one of the most quotable movies of all time.  “Hey Sanka, what ya smoking?”  “I’m not smoking, I’m breathing!”   And it stars 90s icons such as Doug E. Doug and John Candy.

Disney Orders A Full Season of “Girl Meets World”

While we are still (impatiently) waiting for an official air date for “Girl Meets World,” the sequel to the ultimate 90s coming of age show “Boy Meets World,” star Danielle Fishel revealed the show has been officially picked up by Disney Channel for a full season.

So far, the only release date we’ve been given from Disney is “sometime in 2014.”  We hope this good news means that the premiere isn’t too far away!  Ever since ABC Family stopped airing old “Boy Meets World” episodes on weekday mornings, we have been missing Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence in our lives. We’re sad they didn’t actually name their children “Chewbacca” and “Plankton” like Cory promised!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTfULMd-Du0

The show promises to have guest appearances from former cast members, which better include Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) and Eric Matthews (Will Friedle).   But fear not, according to IMDB, Mr. Feeny will be in at least 1 episode.

We hope the spinoff series will be just as iconic as the original!

What other classic TGIF shows would you like to make a comeback?

Throwback Thursday: 2Be3

If you thought American boy bands were kind of ridiculous back in the day, you haven’t gone looking for 90s boy bands from Europe!  While they all have the same elements that shot Backstreet Boys and NKOTB to the top of our charts, European boy bands did it better…and with an accent!

Let’s focus on the French boy band, 2Be3.

The group of friends came together as 2Be3 in 1996, producing three studio albums and touring Europe until they disbanded in 2001.  They even starred in a television show on a national Francophone network called Pour être libre, or “To Be Free” which ran for 40 episodes. While the whole thing might be in French, its easy to tell how these three friends were superstars in their homeland.  Click here to watch an episode from the show. Too bad we didn’t know about this years ago…we would have moved to France just for them!!!

2Be3 did have one English-language single aptly titled “Excuse My French” and we can’t stop giggling at how ridiculous this all seems now but back in the 90s…the music and the clothes were a big deal!!

Is it just us, or does the one in the middle look like Channing Tatum a little bit?
