We’ve seen collabs from within boybands before (such as Jordan Knight’s “Stingy” feat Donnie Wahlberg), but this is the first cross-boyband duo in history.  Since NKOTBSB was pretty much the greatest thing that has ever happened in the history of boybands, we are beyond thrilled for Nick & Knight!

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 2nd at 10am local time.  And don’t forget NKOTBSB are a close knit bunch – you never know who could stop by your show!  When we saw Jordan Knight in NYC, Donnie Wahlberg & Jonathan Knight stopped by.

SecretFangirls.com Interview With AJR!

We had the chance to sit down with Adam, Jack and Ryan Met of AJR before their headlining show in Philadelphia last week.   The guys shared everything from their pre-concert rituals to which artist they’d “fangirl” over if they met.

Their single “I’m Ready” has been climbing the charts, and is sure to be one of the biggest hits of the summer!  You can catch AJR at radio festivals across the US, and on tour with Lindsey Stirling this summer. Check out all the dates here and be sure to get a copy of the “I’m Ready” EP before the show so you can sing along!

In the meantime, watch our interview below and get to know more about Adam, Jack and Ryan!

5SOS & Jackson Guthy Bring The Stars Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour to NYC!

We caught Aussie band (NOT boy band) 5SOS’ first North American headlining tour when they stopped in NYC this week!  We were just as excited to see opener Jackson Guthy, whom we loved on the Summer Break Tour with Big Time Rush last year.  He played several new songs including his new single, “Young and Single.”  Jackson does a great job of getting the crowd pumped up with his catchy songs and energetic performance.

It’s clear that 5S0S draw a lot of their inspiration from early 2000s pop-punk and add their own twist on it.  The Australian band powered through their set like old pros playing old favorites like “Don’t Stop” and new releases from their EP like “Heartache On The Big Screen”.  It was almost like watching All Time Low and Blink-182’s love child on stage!  Everything from the onstage banter, to the antics to move from stage right to stage left, and even the dueling guitars between Luke and Michael had us wishing we could turn back time to Warped Tour 2007-2008.

IMG_2088
As the band slowed things down (not by much) with their song “Beside You”, the crowd responded with raising paper hearts in the air and signs reading “the city that never sleeps” with the NYC skyline on them.  Lead singer, Luke Hemmings commented mid song how cool the crowd looked from stage and we totally agree.  It’s amazing to see just how much social media has impacted music and concerts today, as hundreds of fans in the audience held up their hearts.

The sold out crowd was extremely enthusiastic, and we noticed a LOT of items being thrown on stage at the band.  Clearly some people haven’t read our Fangirl Handbook for the proper concert etiquette!  (Rule #1:  Don’t throw things at the band.)

IMG_2096
5 Seconds Of Summer are sure to get the respect they deserve with the support and friendship of fellow pop-punk artists, All Time Low.  Alex Gaskarth co-wrote a song called “Disconnected” with 5SOS for the US Tour Edition of the “She Looks So Perfect EP”.  The song definitely sounds like an outtake from an earlier ATL album (hey, we’re not complaining!) and we can hear the ATL influences in their track “Lost Boy.”

If you get the chance to see 5SOS on tour, and you love to feel nostalgic for early-mid 2000’s pop-punk – hop on that bandwagon before it gets too full!

Watch 5 Seconds Of Summer perform “She Looks So Perfect” live at the Best Buy Theater in New York City from last night!

Check out the set list below from PupFresh!

“18”
“Out of My Limit”
“Voo Doo Doll”
“Don’t Stop”
“Heartache on the Big Screen”
“Lost Boy”
“Amnesia”
“Beside You”
“Disconnected”
“Heartbreak Girl”
“Teenage Dream”
“What I Like About You”
“Good Girls Are Bad Girls”
“She Looks So Perfect”
“Try Hard”

The Fangirl Handbook #3: Ticket Buying 101

We discussed Concert Etiquette & How to Meet the Band in the first two chapters of The Fangirl Handbook.  Now you know what to do at the show; but you’ve got to get tickets first!

There’s nothing better than when your favorite artist finally announces a big tour!  And let’s face it: there’s nothing worse than trying to buy tickets.   We’ve learned a lot over the years on how to get the best seats for any show, and want to share some of our advice.  We refuse to buy resale tickets, and with a little luck, determination and patience, have been able to get great seats to some of the hottest tickets in town.

1. Be sure to join the mailing list (free!) or fan club of all of your favorite artists.  They won’t email you a lot; and when they do it’s usually with important info like tour dates, or pre-sale passwords!   Some artists have completely affordable fan club options as well – for around $10 you can have access to pre-sale codes for an entire year of touring.   Of course artist’s #1 priority is selling tickets to their fans, not ticket brokers, so this is usually the best way to get tickets.  And, if you think about sharing the cost with everyone who’s going (say, a group of 4) and agree to split the cost of the membership, it’s just an extra $3 on top of your ticket price.  And you’re more likely to get a good seat.

2.  Keep up with Livenation on social media and email.  They will send out weekly updates; but these emails usually contain important info!  We’ve seen concert announcements via Livenation before the artists share the news.  Livenation is great at having pre-sales through social media (Facebook, Twitter) and their mobile app.  The codes are usually pretty easy to find, and if you ask them on Twitter they will likely help you out.

3.  Have a Ticketmaster account.  Every second counts when buying tickets, and having this extra step out of the way is one less thing to worry about!

4. Keep trying!  With popular shows, sometimes it can take the system a while to load.  Don’t be discouraged if you come up with no tickets after the 3rd (or 33rd try).  We’ve gotten great seats just by never giving up!!

5. Be ready to go before the on-sale time.  We like to set up a “ticket buying” station whenever possible.  We have open as many computers / iPads / iPhones as possible, with wallets and credit cards nearby just in case.  And if we’re buying for a group, we make sure to be on the phone / gchat / etc with them, just so we’re all in agreement on which seats to buy.  And so whomever gets the best seats gets those!

6.  Know what seats you want ahead of time.  The seating charts are always posted before the on-sale.  Discuss with your group which are your 1st, 2nd and even 3rd choice seats, what seats you do NOT want, and what to do if you only get literally the last row in the arena.  With an obstructed view.

7.  Know your price limit ahead of time and make sure everyone agrees.  Sometimes you aren’t able to see the different pricing levels until the on-sale starts.  It helps to have an absolute maximum price level set, so you aren’t panicked when that dreaded Ticketmaster timer is counting down!

Hope we haven’t given away too many of our secrets, but that this will help you score tickets to see your favorite artist on tour!

AJR Summer 2014 Tour Dates!

Are you ready for AJR?   The band, comprised of brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met, has quickly gained momentum since their single “I’m Ready” was released last fall.  The video recently passed 1 million views on Youtube!  The song has since entered radio rotation around the country, and doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon. It’s impossible to hear this song and not clap along!

The brothers stopped by Saturday Night Online over the weekend to officially premiere the single and to answer a few fan questions. When we heard “I’m Ready” on the radio for the first time last week, we had a total That Thing You Do moment! (Shout out to 106.1 BLI for the AJR love!)

The Vamps highly anticipated debut album “Meet The Vamps” is out now in the UK and Europe!  We have heard snippets of all of the songs and we have to say, this album is going to be huge.

Artist to Watch: The Strypes

You never know where you’ll find you new favorite band: it could be on YouTube, from a commercial you looked up on Shazam, busking in a park, opening for your favorite artist.   In this case, it was reading an ad for BBM in Rolling Stone that led us to The Strypes.

Ross Farrelly, Josh McClorey, Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh make up the quartet, hailing from Cavan, Ireland.  Their debut album, Snapshot, was released last month in the US.  It’s hard to believe they are only 16-18 years old, as they have a sound way beyond their years, drawing influences from The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones and The Animals.   They also remind us of more contemporary acts like The Vines and Arctic Monkeys.

They just wrapped up a US tour, which included a sold out stop at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and a rave review from Rolling Stone.  We unfortunately missed seeing them this time around, so we’re hoping they’ll be back stateside soon!
