Artist to Watch: The Strypes

You never know where you’ll find you new favorite band: it could be on YouTube, from a commercial you looked up on Shazam, busking in a park, opening for your favorite artist.   In this case, it was reading an ad for BBM in Rolling Stone that led us to The Strypes.

Ross Farrelly, Josh McClorey, Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh make up the quartet, hailing from Cavan, Ireland.  Their debut album, Snapshot, was released last month in the US.  It’s hard to believe they are only 16-18 years old, as they have a sound way beyond their years, drawing influences from The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones and The Animals.   They also remind us of more contemporary acts like The Vines and Arctic Monkeys.

They just wrapped up a US tour, which included a sold out stop at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and a rave review from Rolling Stone.  We unfortunately missed seeing them this time around, so we’re hoping they’ll be back stateside soon!

The Strypes will be performing all over Europe through the Spring and Summer, check out the dates below!

Reign And Why You Should Be Watching It

Starring Adelaide Kane as Mary, Toby Regbo as Prince Francis – Mary’s fiancé, and Torrance Coombs as Bash – Francis’ bastard brother, “Reign” keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing each week. While the music and costumes may not be 100% historically accurate, that is exactly why we LOVE The CW’s newest show, “Reign”.

The show follows Mary Queen of Scots through her teenage years and her pending alliance/engagement with France.

Let’s recap what’s happened so far:
Mary leaves Scotland and goes to France to confirm the Scottish alliance with France and to seal her engagement to Prince Francis. The Queen of France is crazy and hates Mary. Bash, Francis’s bastard brother, kills a dude who wanted to –  y’know what? Long story short: everyone is basically out to get rid of Mary. It’s reeeaally crazy with murders and mistresses, cute boys, beheadings, poisonings, ghosts, cute boys, good music, historically inaccurate costumes, and did we mention CUTE BOYS?!

If you think dating is hard now, it’s nothing compared to the drama of the 16th Century. You weren’t just marrying someone and their family…you married the entire country!

“Reign” returns to TV Thursday, January 23 at 9/8C
