It’s Friday the 13th – might be superstitious for some, but if you’re Taylor Swift it’s the perfect day to drop your new music video for “Style.” Watch the video below, but first check out some of our favorite “Style” covers!
1. THE HEYDAZE
We are obsessed with their rap verse. Kick it with THE HEYDAZE, bae!
2. Amasic
We didn’t realized how much we needed a “punk goes pop” version of this song until we heard this.
3. The Weekend Riot
We love how they break down pop songs to an acoustic guitar & a ukelele.
4. Forever In Your Mind
Keeping acoustic guitars in style.
Taylor Swift wrote an outstanding piece in the Wall Street Journal over the summer about the future of music, where she wrote that “people are only buying [albums] that hit them like an arrow through the heart or have made them feel strong or allowed them to feel like they really aren’t alone in feeling so alone.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Here are the albums in 2014 that hit us like an arrow through the heart.
1. Dan + Shay – “Where It All Began”
It’s rare and special to find an album where you listen to each and every song, and can sing along to from start to finish. This album was by far our most played of the year, and the soundtrack to our 2014. We’ll be able to look back at this year as “where it all began” for Dan + Shay, who have a very, very bright future ahead of them. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the talented duo, starting with their 2nd major headlining tour in 2015.
2. Sam Hunt – “Montevallo”
We were lucky to have downloaded a copy of the “Behind The Pines” mixtape before Sam exploded over the summer with the release of his hit single “Leave The Night On.” He released his full length debut, “Montevallo,” in October, opening at the top of the country charts, and third overall. Sam’s unique style makes us excited about music. His blend of a 90s R&B sound with country storytelling blends perfectly with Sam’s southern drawl, deep voice, and spoken lyrics. He’ll be selling out arenas one day.
3. Hunter Hayes – “Storyline”
A sophomore album is always tricky, especially when your debut was nominated for a Grammy and countless other awards. But Hunter managed to knock it out of the park. The album is a more collaborative effort than his first, on which he played every single instrument. Hunter’s music grabs you from the first listen. We love how Hunter brings this album to life on tour, with unique arrangements for each song. He’s the rare musician who makes his live show a full experience that stays with you long after the show.
4. The Strypes – “Snapshot”
“Snapshot” is another debut album that immediately got our attention and made us wonder where The Strypes had been all our lives. Evidently they’d been honing their skills at pubs across their native Ireland, where they learned to play loud, fast aggressive, and just damn good old fashioned rhythm and blues. And they’re all still in their teens. There are no filler songs on the album – it’s solid from start to finish. If you ever have the opportunity to see The Strypes live, don’t miss it. Seeing the album come to life on stage was one of our favorite moments of the year.
5. Austin Mahone – “Secret”
Technically this is an EP, but at 8 tracks, it’s *almost* an album. We fell for Austin’s sound with tracks like “What About Love” and “Banga Banga,” but this EP, with it’s 90s pop influences, cemented Austin’s status as the one man boyband. We’re obsessed with the Britney and *NSYNC-esque slow breakdown in the title track, “Secret,” and couldn’t stop listening to “Next To You” on repeat for days. Austin’s working on his much awaited full length debut with the legendary Max Martin (who wrote basically every great 90s pop song you can think of), and we can’t wait for more!
6. Jesse McCartney – “In Technicolor”
Possibly the most underrated album on this list. His newest single, “Punch Drunk Recreation,” is a pop masterpiece. Armed with a Justin Timberlake sound, and retro look, JMAC outdid himself with this album. “In Technicolor” is one of those albums that will always be in style.
7. Nick & Knight – “Nick & Knight”
We admit that we’ll probably love anything that involves our favorite boybands – especially when two of our favorite members team up. But Nick Carter and Jordan Knight’s album is a fun R&B/pop album worth checking out.
8. 5SOS – “5SOS”
It’s a safe bet that 5SOS are going to be extremely monumental in bringing pop punk back to a radio station near you! We’ve had the band’s debut album on heavy rotation, and we don’t think we’ll stop playing it any time soon. Also, can people please stop referring to them as a “boyband?” These guys have the heart, drive, and sound to be restore Warped Tour to the glory days of 2006.
9. The Vamps – “Meet The Vamps” While we had to wait for this album to be officially released in the United States, it was worth the wait! The Vamps have an acoustic pop sound that makes you want to dance around your living room singing at the top of your lungs.
10. Walk The Moon – “Talking Is Hard”
With it’s December release, Walk The Moon’s sophomore album “Talking Is Hard” barely made our list. The Ohio band celebrated by live tweeting with fans the first listen of the album, divulging secrets like “there’s a mess up in this part of the song” to “the weird lyrics are from this member!” Walk The Moon are taking the album on a full headlining tour in the spring. It’s not too late to hop on the dance jam bandwagon.
Vine superstar Shawn Mendes just released his new single called “Something Big.” It’s the perfect title for the song, since fans were able to actually move the release date of the song up a few days by tweeting #GetSomethingBigNov7 over 1 million times and counting. Talk about fangirl power.

‘Tis the season for Jingle Ball lineup announcements, indeed! KIIS FM in LA already announced their line up (tickets go on sale Oct 18th @10AM), KDWB in Minneapolis announced their line up this morning, and now it’s NYC’s turn. NYC’s own Z100 is known for throwing the best Jingle Ball all season (we might be biased) and this year’s lineup is nothing short of a dream come true! Check out the full Z100 NYC Jingle Ball 2014 line up below.
It’s that time of year – Jingle Ball concerts are being announced left and right today and they’re all packed with your favorite artists from around the world! The first radio station in with their Jingle Ball 2014 line up is KIIS FM in Los Angeles. Check out the line up below.
Fall is here, which means there’s a chill in the air, everything is pumpkin flavored, and it’s time to savor those last moments outdoors. Here’s some new music for you to listen to while you sip that pumpkin spice latte, and pretend winter is never going to happen.
1. Weezer – “Everything Will Be Alright In The End”
Due October 7th – Pre-Order
We love to rock out like it’s 1994, and have high hopes for this album from one of our favorite bands for the last two decades (!!) Also, Halloween costume ideas: Go as Rivers Cuomo or the awesome monster from the album cover.
2. Hoodie Allen – “People Keep Talking”
Due October 14th – Pre-Order We keep talking about the awesome videos Hoodie has released to go along with the album, like his latest for “Act My Age.” He’s also a perfect example of an independent artist who is great at giving fans what they want, and is slowly building up to the album release with more content, contests and interactive ideas (like inviting fans to leave voicemails which could end up on the album)
3. Sam Hunt – “Montevallo”
Due October 27th
We can’t say enough good things about Sam Hunt. He is definitely THE country artist to watch right now. His single “Leave The Night On” recently went gold, and the “X2C” EP has been holding place in the Top 40 chart since its release in August.
4. Taylor Swift – “1989”
Due October 27th – Pre-Order
We’ll just have to shake off the fact that Taylor isn’t making country music anymore, but will definitely be giving this album a chance as we’re curious to see what she will come up with!
5. Nick Jonas – “Nick Jonas”
Due November 11th
The Jonas Brothers supposedly split over “musical differences” last year. Now we can finally see what direction Nick was hoping to take the band (hint: it’s nothing like the Administration..) Joe, we hope you’re next. (More “Love Slayer”?)
Taylor has been teasing us with “big news” for a few weeks now. All was finally revealed in a Live Stream today hosted by Yahoo! And when Taylor says big news, she MEANS it. She kept dropping surprise after surprise, just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more news. In case you missed it, here’s what you need to know!
Taylor’s 5th studio album will be released on October 27th! The album, named “1989,” gets its title both from the year Taylor was born, and for the “late 80s pop” inspiration for the album. That’s right: this is the first full, purely pop album from Taylor. (Didn’t we all know it was headed in that direction?) There will be a deluxe edition available, with 3 extra tracks, and each physical copy of the album will include 13 Polaroids.
While there isn’t a tracklisting for the album yet (she can’t reveal everything!) You can pre-order the album on iTunes now and get an instant download of her new single, “Shake It Off.”
Taylor also performed “Shake It Off,” during the live stream. And then she dropped the video. Watch it below!
While we’re a little sad Taylor is leaving her country roots behind completely (her first album will always be our favorite), we’re excited to hear the next evolution of her sound. And, as she likes to follow the same patterns, we’re pretty sure that we’ll have a date in 2015 at the Prudential Center for the “1989” Tour. (Tour dates were the one thing she didn’t announce today…she covered literally everything else you could hope for!) Taylor did reveal that she will be hosting a contest and giving 1,989 lucky fans the chance to win a meet & greet on tour. Visit TaylorSwift.com for more info on how to enter!
This weekend T. Swfit will be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards. Tune in to MTV on Sunday, August 24th at 9PM EST to watch!
After dropping several indecipherable clues last week (which all make perfect sense now, looking back), Taylor Swift finally revealed her big news.
Taylor is having a livestream on Yahoo! on August 18th at 5pm EST. If you’re in NYC, you can enter to win a chance to attend in person! We’re guessing (and hoping) that she’ll be announcing some news about the new album! Which if her usual pattern continues, should be out in October. Taylor will also be performing at the VMAs on August 24th….maybe playing some new material?
Sometimes, there is just nothing like a good breakup song, no matter what you’re going through. They can help vent your anger, remind you to stay positive. Here are some of our favorite breakup songs.
1. Brandyn Burnette – “Thanks For Nothing”
Brandyn Burnette’s new single “Thanks For Nothing” shows one way to deal with a breakup. Be positive! That is, be positive that the person you just broke up with is, in Lauren Conrad’s words – “a sucky person!”
2. Hunter Hayes – “More Than I Should”
Hunter is so sweet that makes us wonder who broke his heart so badly that he penned one of the angriest breakup songs we’ve ever heard. You can feel the anger in this song from the first note to the end. The guitars come in, guns blazing, while Hunter sings “I found out the hard way, I loved you more than I should”. We always find ourselves feeling better after listening to this track!
3. Tiffany Houghton – “The Best”
Fresh music from Tiffany Houghton, this break up song is one of our new favorites. We can’t get over how upbeat and happy the music is while Tiffany sings about the jerk who broke her heart. Bless his heart, she’s just wishing him the best. HA!
4. Taylor Swift – “Picture To Burn”
Oldie but a goodie from the queen of writing the songs that are the soundtrack to our young lives. Taylor Swift knows how sucky guys can be, but as far as she’s concerned, they’re all just another picture to burn! Does anyone else miss Taylor’s country days?
5. Jonas Brothers – “What Do I Mean To You”
When we first heard this song last summer on tour, we had no idea that it would be the last time we’d ever see the brothers together as a band, playing music on tour and stuff. The chorus just punches you right in the gut – like when he said those fateful four words “we need to talk”. By the way – Kevin/Joe/Nick, WHAT DO WE MEAN TO YOU!!?
Bonus: 78 Violet (Aly & AJ) – “Potential Breakup Song” & Jonas Brothers “Move On”
You can’t talk about breakup songs without mentioning this iconic song by Aly & AJ and it’s companion song, “Move On” by Jonas Brothers. “Move On” was never recorded, and only performed once, at Bamboozle. But we’re sure it felt good for Joe to get that off of his chest! They both sure seem to have issues with their stuff. We hope you got your stuff back.
