NKOTB Announce The Main Event Tour With TLC and Nelly

NKOTB don’t just have concerts, they throw massive block parties.  In 2011, they joined forces with Backstreet Boys to create the supergroup NKOTBSB, AKA the greatest event that has ever occured in fangirl history.  2013 brought us The Package Tour, as NKOTB recruited Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees into their boyband posse, for yet another unforgettable tour.

This summer, NKOTB are bringing TLC and Nelly out on The Main Event Tour!   It’s their first North American tour in two years, and features an all new, 360 in the round stage.   And if you’ve ever seen the New Kids on tour, you know that they totally BRING IT each and every night on stage.  We can’t wait to see what happens on tour, especially anything involving Donnie or Jordan.   Welcome to the Block Party.

Pre-sales start this Thursday, January 22nd for Blockhead members, and the public on sales are January 31st.  Visit NKOTB.com for more info.

TLC Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Final Album

TLC announced they are working on their 5th and final album – but they need your help!   They launched a Kickstarter campaign today to fund the album, and are asking fans to contribute.  Why?   This way fans can be involved and TLC will maintain creative control.  As they wrote, “While major labels offer artists multimillion dollar recording and marketing budgets, they don’t often give artists complete control of their own music. It is ESSENTIAL that we create our final album completely on our own terms, without any restrictions, with YOU.”

This will be the first TLC album recorded by Chilli and T-Boz as a duo.  Like with any Kickstarter, you can get rewards for your contribution, ranging from a digital copy of the album once it’s released, to a TLC slumber party.  You can contribute to TLC’s Final Album HERE!   The campaign ends on February 19th, with a goal of $150,000.

We hear TLC might be heading out on tour soon … stay tuned for an announcement and practice singing “Waterfalls!”

We Are Stations Release New Single, “Messed Up”

NYC based alt rock band We Are Stations just released their latest single titled “Messed Up” and we already have it on heavy rotation in the Secret Fangirl office.   The new single has more of the 90s alt sound we love, like in their first single “Keep Your Head Up.”   It’s everything we wanted and more.

Listen to the new single on SoundCloud below!

Pickup a copy of “Keep Your Head Up” on iTunes and watch our interview to get to know more about We Are Stations.

The Friday Five: Have A Boyband Christmas

‘Tis the season for boys in matching chunky turtlenecks and festive headwear!  If you’re searching for the perfect Holiday music to add to your playlist (or any playlist), you can’t go wrong with some classic boyband songs.

1. 98 Degrees – “This Gift”
Is it okay if we say this is our favorite 98 Degrees album?  (Sorry, “Microphone.”)

2. *NSYNC – “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”
The most iconic Christmas music video of all time.

3. NKOTB – “Funky Funky Xmas”
They performed this on the Arsenio Hall Show in 1990, and Jordan decided his Christmas gift to you would be to take his shirt off mid-performance.

4. Big Time Rush – “Beautiful Christmas”
Confession: we will listen to this song year round if it shuffles on our BTR playlist.

5. Backstreet Boys – “It’s Christmas Time Again”
BSB somehow managed to avoid releasing a full Christmas album (although we would love that guys, get on it).  They did release this single in in 2012.

Watch The Trailer for Backstreet Boys “Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of”

We literally could not be more excited for the upcoming Backstreet Boys documentary!  It’s in theaters January 30th, and is just the perfect pick-me-up during that dreaded post-Christmas, concert-less vortex known as January and February.  Watch the official trailer below!

Make sure you practice your BSB choreography in the meantime, because if people aren’t dancing in the aisles in the theater we will be VERY disappointed.

Austin Mahone Drops “Waiting For This Love”

Austin Mahone has been busy working on his much anticipated debut album (seriously, he has a book out – but not a full album!)  While we (impatiently) wait for it, Austin wanted to give us some new music in the meantime “as a thank you for supporting everything I do.”  He wrote the track with pal Robert Villanueva in Miami.  We love Austin for his 90s pop-influenced sound, but this track is more of a throwback to classic 90s R&B.  Check it out and download for free below!

THE HEYDAZE Cover TLC’s “No Scrubs”

Was 1999 the greatest year for music of all time?  We think yes.  THE HEYDAZE clearly share our love of 90s pop – they do a killer mashup of Sisqo’s “Thong Song” and Mario’s “Let Me Love You” on tour, and their latest cover is TLC’s classic jam “No Scrubs.”  Obsessed.   Listen below!

You can see THE HEYDAZE in NYC at Gramercy Theatre on December 19th.  Get your tickets now!

Backstreet Boys Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of Documentary To Be Released January 30th!

Backstreet’s Back, alright?  After teasing us with the trailer on tour for the last two summers, the Backstreet Boys movie finally has a release date!  “Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” will be released in theaters and video on demand January 30th, 2015!  The documentary is a behind the scenes look at the best selling boyband of all time, who are celebrating a remarkable 21 years together this year.  It was filmed over a two year period, including their worldwide “In A World Like This Tour.”  So, you just might see yourself in the movie!

Watch the trailer below and start planning that BSB screening party with your fellow fangirls now.  And brush up on your dance moves, because there better be dancing in the movie theater aisles.

The documentary will premiere later in 2015 on VH1 as part of VH1 Rock Docs.

The Friday Five: TV Show Theme Songs

There are some people who hit the skip button on Netflix when marathoning a TV show as soon as the credits start to appear.  We are not those people.  Isn’t part of the fun of a marathon singing along to the theme song every 46 minutes?   Here are some of our favorite TV show theme songs.

1. “I Don’t Want To Wait” – Paula Cole
Theme to “Dawson’s Creek”
Several of the seasons on DVD have a substitute theme song.  We guess Paula Cole didn’t want to be remembered as “the person who sang the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ theme song.”  Way too late. We’ll still burst into “I Don’t Wanna Wait” when the credits start to roll.  And something just feels off with the new theme song, almost like putting in a new cast member.

2. “California” – Phantom Planet
Theme to “The O.C.”
The greatest TV show of all time also has one of the greatest theme songs of all time.  Music was such an important part of the show -and we were thrilled to find out that Seth Cohen had our same taste in music. Raise your hand if you’re still searching for your own Seth Cohen.  So are we.   When we hear any song from the series, we can immediately picture what scene from “The O.C.” it went along with.

3. -“Hey Sandy” – Polaris
Theme to “The Adventures of Pete & Pete”
Did you know that the band Polaris was specifically formed to create the music and theme song for “Pete & Pete?”   The band recently reunited and are out on tour this Fall. Nickelodeon was on point in the 90s with their programming because this show was SO GOOD!  It was also extremely strange but that’s probably why us 90s kids turned out the way we did.  Can we double dog dare someone to get a Petunia tattoo and make her dance?

4.  “Camp Anawanna” – Cast of “Salute Your Shorts”
Theme song to “Salute Your Shorts”
Another Nickelodeon show that was super bizarre but it made us wish our parents sent us to sleep away summer camp.  “Salute Your Shorts” was only on the air for two seasons but it was the best two seasons of our lives!  Bet you still remember all the words to  this TV show theme song/camp fire sing-along.

5. “Boy Meets World” Theme Song
Theme song to “Boy Meets World”
It’s hard to believe that the song we all associate with the series was only added in the later seasons of the show.  The opening credits went through several versions before landing on this one.  The theme song to the series’ spinoff, “Girl Meets World,” is pretty great, too.  It’s good to know I have friends who will always stand by me.

Nick & Knight Live At The Best Buy Theater in NYC

Nick Carter and Jordan Knight brought their duet project, Nick & Knight, to the Best Buy Theater in New York City on Friday night and it was everything we could have imagined and more for two boy band members teaming up for an album and tour.

P1020515

During the concert, Jordan kept picking on Nick for being a trooper and powering through the concert even though Nick had almost lost his voice and was having a hard time singing.  That didn’t slow down his dance moves though, which he showcased in their terrific 90s medley mid-concert.  We might be biased but the best part of the concert might have been that cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony” that had the audience screaming with delight – like it was 1996 all over again! Watch their 90s medley below, which on its own is worth the price of admission.

P1020072

Nick and Jordan slowed things down a little when they broke out an acoustic guitar and keyboard to sing one of the most heartfelt songs on the album – “Halfway There.”  Making sure to give their larger than life fans the right stuff, Nick and Jordan also covered their boy band hits “I Want It That Way” and “Step By Step.”

P1020180

While we’re sad Jordan didn’t sing “Stingy” (Donnie was busy filming his TV show on Friday night), the sold out audience was treated to “Give It To You” and “Larger Than Life” featuring Nick Carter on the electric guitar.

P1020631

Watch Nick & Knight sing “Paper” live below.

Catch Nick & Knight when they roll through your town.  You won’t forget it!    Check out the rest of the tour dates HERE.
