Aly & AJ Release “Take Me”

Aly & AJ just shared their brand new single called “Take Me” marking their first release in 10 years as Aly & AJ!  After focusing on acting and other projects, the Michalka sisters are letting their 80s inspired music roam free after feeling discouraged by music.

“Take Me” is a sweeping pop track asking “when you gonna take me out / make a move and make it now” while maintaining Aly & AJ’s core sound that we all know and love about the sisters.

We can’t wait to hear more from Aly & AJ but for now, listen to “Take Me” on Soundcloud or Spotify now!

Tennis Tuesday: News Roundup

This Week’s Tournament:
Western & Southern Open – Cincinatti, OH

Last Week’s Winner:
Rogers Cup – Sascha Zverev

Denis Shapovalov Soars to #67
There is nothing like the support of the home crowd!  Denis Shapovalov, an 18-year-old Canadian who turned pro last year, strongly announced his arrival by reaching the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.  Denis is the youngest player to reach the semifinals of a Masters 1000 event.  His route to the semis included stunning defeats of Rafael Nadal, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) and Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 7-6(4).  Denis’ ranking also soared from #143 to #67.

Sascha Zverev Wins 2nd Masters 1000 Title
#NextGen star Sascha Zverev won his 2nd masters title of the year in Montreal over the weekend.  Sascha was impressive all week, and defeated Roger Federer in the final 6-3, 6-4.  The win is Sascha’s 10th match win in a row, after capturing the Citi Open title in Washington, D.C. last week.  Sascha is now up to a career high of #7 in the world, and will be seeded even higher at the US Open as both Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic have had to shut their seasons down early due to injury.

Roger Federer Withdraws from Cincinatti
After reaching the finals of yet another tournament this year, Roger Federer announced his withdrawl from the Western & Southern Open in Cincinatti.  Federer had tweaked his back during the Rogers Cup in Montreal, and hopes that the rest will help him be in good shape for the US Open, which starts in just 2 weeks.

Nadal to Return to #1 in the World
Rafa was on track to reach a possible return to #1 in the world in Montreal last week, before being shocked by the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov.  Roger Federer and Rafa were set to face off for the #1 spot this week, pending their results in Cincinnati.  However, Federer’s injury withdrawl means that Rafa will regain the #1 ranking next week for the first time in 3 years.  VAMOS!

Tommy Paul Earns US Open Wildcard
20-year-old American Tommy Paul has had an outstanding run so far this Summer, and his efforts have earned him a wild card into the US Open!   Tommy made it to the Quarterfinals in both Atlanta and Washington, D.C., where he lost a close, thrilling 3-set match against Kei Nishikori.  We’re looking forward to seeing Tommy back in NY!   He made it into the main draw previously as a qualifier in 2015.

Why Don’t We Added to Arthur Ashe Kids Day Lineup
The lineup for this year’s Arthur Ashe Kids Day, the annual concert & festival that kicks off the US Open, just got even more amazing!  Your new favorite boyband, Why Don’t We, will be performing as a part of the stadium show alongside New Hope Club, Alex Aiono, Sofia Carson & more!   AAKD is on Saturday, August 26th on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.  In addition to the concert, there will be free activities and performances all over the grounds.  Tickets to the AAKD stadium show are on sale now. Artist To Watch: The Wrecks

The Wrecks are good.  Like, really good!  So good in fact, that they wrote and recorded their debut EP in just a few days.  The best decisions are usually made on a whim and almost always have a good story.

After hearing that a friend had access to a legit recording studio for a few days, the guys wrote the best songs they could in a short amount of time.  The Wrecks went in to track with zero budget, little studio knowledge, and a ton of borrowed time.  They weren’t allowed to be in the studio let alone track anything there!   When they heard the studio owner’s ex-wife was stopping by, the guys got outta dodge as fast as they could with what would become their debut EP on a hard drive in a backpack.

The Wrecks debut single “Favorite Liar” caught the traction on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation station and quickly landed the guys plenty of fans include Baltimore natives, All Time Low.  “We’re so stoked that All Time Low asked us to come out with them this summer,” said the band “and we’re looking forward to playing stages that size for the first time. We can’t wait to get back out on the road again, as we’ve been mostly cramped inside writing new material and working on our set for the past few months. It’s refreshing to see such a good mix of genres in thelineup, as well. We’re gonna bring it 110% every night and we’re confident the crowds will, too.”

We’re predicting big, big things for these guys and we can’t wait to see what the future holds!  Watch the official video for “Favorite Liar” below.

Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters Inducted Into Tennis Hall of Fame
Andy Roddick was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame over the weekend in Newport, Rhode Island along with Kim Clijsters, Steve Flink, and Vic Braden.  As expected, Andy’s induction speech was equal parts poignant, charming, reflective, and funny, and reminded  us why we fell in love with tennis in the first place (and how much we miss Andy on tour!)   We loved Andy’s stories about how much he loved tennis from a young age and what a fan he was of all the players that came before him.  We’ll always be grateful to our tennis hero, Andy Roddick!  Watch Andy’s full speech below and have some tissues ready.

Jack Sock Goes Esquire
The latest issue of Esquire features a story on Jack Sock.  He mentions looking up to newly minted Hall of Famer, Andy Roddick.  “Sock grew up a Roddick fan (“being from Nebraska, it was hard not to be, plus I liked the Reebok Pumps and visor and the Backstreet Boys frosted tips”)”  We think Jack should bring this look back.  Check out the story here!

US Open Series Is Underway!
It’s hard to believe that the US Open starts in just over a month.  The US Open Series kicked off yesterday in Atlanta, with several tournaments coming up throughout the US & Canada leading up to the last slam of the year at the end of August.  Lots of young American players are in action in Atlanta this week.

Andrey Rublev Wins First Title in Croatia
19-year-old Russian Andrey Rublev won his first title over the weekend in Croatia.  Rublev entered the tournament as a lucky loser, having lost in the last round of qualifying, and played his way to the title.  Don’t forget that Rublev used to be in a One Direction cover band, Summer Afternoon.

Artist To Watch: The Catching

Based in New Jersey, home of classic rock and emo kings galore, The Catching have been making a name for themselves from an early age. Consisting of four friends ranging in age from 18 to 20, singer Holden Glazer, guitarists Jake Farbman and Evan Hemwall, and drummer Drew Stevens, The Catching are ready to take over your Summer playlist!  After releasing their debut EP “Teenage Fiction Pt. 1” almost a year ago, these guys have been causing waves ever since.

The Catching recently teamed up with legendary song-writer/producer Matt Squire (All Time Low, Selena Gomez, Panic! At The Disco) for their next release due out later this year.  While we anxiously wait for the new EP, the guys shared a brand new video for their latest single “Do It All Again” off the upcoming project!  The new track centers around the ups and downs of a relationship and how they would make the same mistakes all over again.
