SecretFangirls.com Interview Drawing North

Australia is showing the world that they’re more than just beautiful beaches filled with cute surfer dudes, kangaroos around every corner. The continent is home to talented artists like 5SOS, Keith Urban, and Flume.  Drawing North are the latest musical export to come to the United States from Australia.  Po, Drew and Jake blend fun new wave electronica sounds with an indie band’s work ethic.

Drawing North got their start writing pop demos in a garage, and quickly built a fanbase in their hometown of Canberra, Australia. They sold out their first ever headlining show and have toured  across the continent, playing festivals like Vans Warped Tour Australia and Australia Celebrates live.  Joel Madden of Good Charlotte showed his love for the band, and we can’t think of a better endorsement!

The band is ready to take the US by storm!   Drawing North are about to release their brand new EP that has a new sound for the band with the same heartfelt lyrics fans have come to love from Drew, Po, and Jake.   We got to sit down with the guys recently to chat about who they would fangirl over, their must haves on tour (dogs!), and their new single “Stay” that comes out on April 5th.  Watch our interview and get to know your new favorite Aussie band!

Sign up here for the Drawing North newsletter and you will receive  “Stay” for free, in your inbox  before it gets released on April 5th!

DREAMCAR Ft. Members of AFI & No Doubt Release “Kill For Candy”

The new sickly sweet project DREAMCAR is the marriage of No Doubt members Tony Kanal Adrian Young, and Tom Dumont and AFI/Blackq Audio frontman Davey Havok.  The first single “Kill For Candy,” produced by Tim Pagnotta from Sugarcult is taken from the band’s debut self titled album due out May 12th on Columbia Records.

We mentioned how sickly sweet the single is but it’s catchy and will definitely set the tone for our Summer playlist this year.   “There’s an honesty in all of my lyrics,” Havok states. “This one speaks to a perhaps dangerous and unhealthy desire for the sweet.”

Album Review: Thieves’ “No Motive” Out 11/25

Thieves are on the verge of releasing one of our favorite post punk records this year!  The Texas bred band recently signed to Revival Recordings backed by Alesana front man Shawn Milke with their sights set on the stars.  Thieves’ debut album, “No Motive,” is nothing short of pure pop punk aggression that revived our love of the genre.

The album comes out on Friday but we have the album review for you right here!  Be sure to grab your copy of “No Motive” when it drops on 11/25 – consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.

1. “Drag Me Into Light”
“No Motive” kicks off with a strong start.  “Drag Me Into Light,” the first single, immediately gets your head bopping before the first chorus even kicks in.  When it hits that break down, the song goes to another level and you know this album is going to be stuck in your head for weeks!

2. “5748”
As the album progresses, we start finding ourselves hitting the repeat button more and more. “5748” is filled with atmospheric guitars and driving drums.

3. “Stone Eyelids”
We had to hit repeat on at least twice on “Stone Eyelids,” not only to soak in all of the layers in the song, but also because it’s just that good!

4. “Fade”
“Fade,” the second track released ahead of the album has a softer sound but lyrically hits the listener hard.  It’s everything we’ve ever wanted to scream when we felt alone while the light at the end of the tunnel sinks further into the night.

5. “Pulse”
“Pulse” comes in as the climax of the ten track album as everything that’s been building finally escapes and bleeds into the next track, “Fair-Weather.”

6. “Fair-Weather”
What “Fair-Weather” lacks in an intro, the song makes up for in urgency throughout the three minute track and soothes your wounds with a sweet outro comforting you like a hug from a long lost friend.

7. “Decoder”
We all remember the first time a bridge really caught us with the hook and stuck with us.  “Decoder” has the breakdown of the album that future bands will look back on, try to recreate, and just fall short of.  We instantly hit repeat before this one even ended.

8. “Stay”
“Stay” should have a solid place in the Thieves live set for years to come.  Even with the dreamy atmospheric start, when the chorus kicks in, it comes in strong, making you want to stay forever in such a solid album from start to finish.

9. “Generation Why”
If anyone tells you to pick just one favorite song on an album, look them in the face and play this track.  “Generation Why” is going to hold a special place on our playlists for years to come.  One listen to the lyrics and you’ll be hooked.

10. “No Motive”
They say “save the best for last” and that’s exactly what Thieves did.  “No Motive” asks listeners “was it worth it to lose your soul?” in one of the heaviest songs on the album vocally, giving a stunning ending to a very impressive debut album.

Watch the official video for “Drag Me Into Light” below.

Purchase a copy of “No Motive” when it drops Friday, November 25th on iTunes and Amazon!

O-Town Launch Kickstarter for New Album

We had the chance to see O-Town in 2016 at Mixtape Festival and were blown away by how incredible they looked and sounded.  Their set was SO MUCH FUN (who doesn’t love “Liquid Dreams”?), their outfits were on point (overalls + tie dye = yes), and the new material they played was excellent.  We’re excited to hear they are working on their 4th studio album after wrapping up their Summer tour with 98 Degrees.

O-Town launched an official Kickstarter campaign for the album, the first album in the band’s history to be free of any label, funded fully by fans for fans!  The campaign was a success – they met their goal in an incredible 7 hours!  You can still support the album campaign and earn prizes like the overalls Trevor wore on the My2K Tour, the chance to be their tour manager for a day, or a private O-Town concert.  And of course, you’ll get a copy of the new album when it’s released!  Head over to their Kickstarter page now to pledge your support for the future of boybands.
