Tennis Tuesday: ATP News Roundup

Last week on the ATP World Tour was an exciting one for us, with several of our favorite players making the finals!   Here’s our roundup of the tennis news of the week.

This Week’s Tournaments:
Delray Beach, FL, USA
Rio de Janiero, Brazil
Marseille, France

Taylor Fritz Makes First Final
The 18-year-old American made his first ATP World Tour Final in just his 3rd event on tour.  To put that in perspective, it took Roger Federer 21 tour events to reach his first tour final.  We were rooting for Fritz all week and are looking forward to more!  Also, the Memphis Open officially has the coolest trophies on tour.

DelPotro Back in Action Tonight
Juan Martin Del Potro is making his comeback tonight at the Delray Beach Open against American Denis Kudla.  Vamos Delpo!!

Dominic Thiem Beats Nadal, Wins Argentina Open
Thiem was impressive in beating Nadal (on clay!) and followed it up with a 3 set win over Nicholas Almagro to win the title.  Too often we’ll see players follow up a big win with a loss in the next round, so we’re glad to see Thiem get the win!

Milos Raonic Plays NBA All Star Game
The 6’5″ Raonic was impressive at the NBA All Star Game in Toronto over the weekend, making a slam dunk look just as easy as one of his (scarily) fast serves.

Watch Nick Carter’s “19 in 99” Video

Nick Carter just dropped the music video for his brilliantly titled new single “19 in 99.”  Don’t we all wish we could go back to 1999?  Think of all the concerts and “TRL” tapings you could go to!  We can’t decide which Nick in the video is our favorite, although we might have to go with Backstreet Nick dressed in all white.  Look out for a familiar pizza delivery man in the video too.  We can’t wait to hear this song on Nick’s upcoming solo tour!  Check out all of the dates HERE!  Watch “19 in 99” below!

Tennis Tuesday: ATP News of the Week

It’s no secret that the only thing we love as much as music is tennis!  Lucky for us, the tennis season lasts nearly the entire year, hitting every corner of the globe.  We thought we’d take a weekly look at the ATP World Tour action, both on an off the court.

This Week’s Tournaments:
Memphis, TN, USA
Rotterdam, Netherlands
Buenos Aires, Argentina

Del Potro Returning at Delray Beach
Juan Martin del Potro announced that he is making his return to the tour very soon at the Delray Beach Open!  We’ve missed Delpo, and it’s wonderful to see that he is healthy enough to play again!

Gasquet Wins Montpellier
Our petit-ami, Richard Gasquet, played his first tournament of 2016 in Montpellier last week.  And won!  Gasquet missed the Australian Open due to an ongoing back injury, and we’re thrilled to see him back on court and playing well!

ATP Players + Puppies = Love
We love the off-court features on the ATP site,   This week they took a look at players and their pets!  Of course there’s Djokovic’s dog Pierre, Murray’s terriers Maggie May and Rusty … and Alexandr Dogopolov has the coolest looking cat we’ve ever seen.

The Memphis Open is underway, and is the first tournament to have 5 American teenagers in the draw since 1989.  Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, Michael Mmoh, and Jared Donaldson all made it to the main draw of the tournament.   Not sure about you, but we are super excited about the future of American tennis.  USA!  USA!  USA!

Dan + Shay Release “From The Ground Up”

After taking a (much needed) break to re-group and work on new music, Dan + Shay are back with a brand new single!   The duo posted a “be back soon” message just before the Holidays and returned earlier this week with some exciting news: new music!  Have we mentioned how much we’ve missed them?  The song got high praise from Warner Nashville President John Esposito (side note: we have seen Espo at shows rocking out and he is the bomb) and Scooter Braun, who called it a “game changer.”  Well, the wait is over and “From The Ground Up” is here!    WE HAVE NEW MUSIC FROM DAN + SHAY!!!  Watch the video below!

The track was co-written by Chris DeStefano (who has written many of our JAMS) and is the first track off of Dan + Shay’s upcoming sophomore release.  We had high hopes for this song – Dan + Shay’s “Where It All Began” is one of our favorite albums of all time – and it did not disappoint!

A friend of ours has described Dan + Shay as a country version of Backstreet Boys, and “From The Ground Up” certainly fits the bill.  The emotional power ballad is driven by the smooth harmonies and powerful vocals we’ve come to know and love from the duo.   Dan + Shay draw from both pop songwriting and a traditional country narrative.  We’re sure this song will be played at many upcoming weddings!

DREAMERS Drop “You Are Here” EP

Brooklyn indie pop trio DREAMERS just released a new EP, “You Are Here.”  The EP features their hit “Wolves (You Got Me)” and their current single, “Drugs.”  DREAMERS got a lot of attention for their self-released debut, and recently signed with Fairfax Recordings.  They are definitely an artist you need to look out for in 2016!   We love their dreamy pop-rock sound and the range of influences you can hear in their music.  Stream “You Are Here” on SoundCloud below!
