Our latest Artist to Watch is Connecticut native and singer-songwriter Brett Steinberg. Brett’s piano driven songs draw influences from Coldplay and John Mayer, while the subject matter ranges from love to hope to fear and everything in between. Impressively all eleven songs on this young artist’s album were written, recorded, and mixed by Brett himself.

We’ll be honest – Pete Wentz has an ear for bands that eventually take off. He recently signed Copenhagen-by-way-of Brooklyn band New Politics to his re-launched DCD2 label. Made up of two friends from Denmark (David Boyd and Soren Hansen) and one insanely talented Long Island drummer (Louis Vecchio), this pop/rock/electronica dance trio will have you singing and dancing to their music before their set is done! Oh, and you might want to pick up your jaw from the floor as soon as David Boyd shows you his breakdancing background.

Vine sensation turned pop star Shawn Mendes just released the music video for his new single “Something Big.” Shawn is taking over NYC today, with appearances on “Live With Kelly and Michael” this morning, MTV coverage all day, and an iHeartRadio concert tonight. Shawn’s sold-out headlining mini-tour kicks off this Saturday at the Best Buy Theater in NYC.

Sam Hunt just announced his first headlining tour, kicking off in West Hollywood in January! And, best of all, he’s making a stop in NYC! (Loyal Secret Fangirl readers will know this is a huge deal for us.) We love how Sam’s unique mix of country and R&B influences blend into his distinct sound. He’s also an incredibly fun artist to watch live. Even on his opening spot on the “Up In Smoke Tour,” the whole crowd was singing along.
You don’t want to miss this one – Sam’s single “Leave The Night On” has gone platinum, and his first album “Montevallo” debuted at #1 on the country charts. We caught the last stop of Nick Jonas’ mini tour in Brooklyn last night, in support of his new self-titled album out November 11th. We’d be lying if we said we were totally over the Jo Bros unexpected breakup last fall – after all, we’ve seen them in concert more than any other artist combined. We’ve been singing Nick’s praises since circa 2007, but it’s nice to see that finally all of his secret fans have come out in the open and realized what we’ve been saying all along.
Last night’s show was a definite departure from the Jonas Brothers’ style, so let’s take a look back at our favorite Jonas songs. If you’re feeling nostalgic, we suggest breaking out your “Bonus Jonas” edition DVD.
1. “Goodnight and Goodbye”
This is the song that cemented our love, when we saw them open for J Mac back in the day. We have a vivid memory of Nick ripping off his bowtie during this song, leading to immediately fangirling and possibly a sign of things to come.
2. “Pushin’ Me Away”
The concert movie intro of this song is one of our faves because of how into it Joe gets, pretending to direct the string section and then it stops and his vocals kick in. True story: we also had our own dance moves to this song.
3. “Sorry”
We’re proud to say that we were in attendance of the one and ONLY time they ever performed this song. We’re glad someone was functioning enough to get this on video because we were probably sing-screaming at the top of our lungs (considering they had just brought out Robert Schwartzman)
4. “I Am What I Am”
Sorry Taylor, but THIS is the ultimate anti-hater jam. If you don’t like it get with somebody else. We may or may not have lost it when they played this song in a medley in 2010.
5. “What Do I Mean To You” One of the last songs that they ever released (if you count giving the last album to your fan club for free as “releasing an album”), “What Do I Mean To You” was a dark song spawned from a failed relationship. The breakup had fans wondering what we meant to them, too.

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays – we dream about eating so much deliciousness that we pass out at the table, a la Seth Cohen. And one of our favorite traditions is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which always features some of our favorite artists! Past lineups have included Big Time Rush, Cody Simpson, Jonas Brothers, Austin Mahone … it’s a right of passage for young artists.
The first round of performers were just announced, and lots of Secret Fangirls favorites are on the list! Make sure to tune into NBC at 9AM Thanksgiving morning to watch! Or, if you’re in NYC, you can lineup to watch the parade, which runs from the Upper West Side to Macy’s in Herald Square.
