Broadside Release New Single, “Cruel” Featuring Brian Butcher of The Home Team

Richmond, VA pop rock outfit, Broadside dropped their brand new single, “Cruel” featuring The Home Team’s Brian Butcher as they kick off on a huge tour together this Spring.

Lyrically, the new track tackles facing your fears when it feels like the world is working against you. When asked about the song, Broadside frontman Ollie Baxxter said, “For years, I’ve allowed my dreams to slip out of my hands from things I can’t control. “Cruel” as a song, is about hitting the nail on the head, allowing yourself to be washed out in the headlights of oncoming traffic. If you’ve got something to lose, the world is cruel, or it can be. So hold on tight.”

The music video, directed by Sam Link, finds Broadside posing as hotel clerks engaged in a high stakes heist! Be sure to catch Broadside and The Home Team on tour together this Spring with Honey Revenge. Check out the dates below and grab your tickets while they last!

Broadside Release Two New Singles, “King Of Nothing” & “Empty”

Broadside have been awfully quiet lately but that just means they’re putting in the work behind the scenes on new music.  The guys have been teasing two new singles for several weeks and now fans can finally listen to tracks on Spotify as well as pre-order a copy of the exclusive, limited edition colored 7″ vinyls.  Singer Oliver Baxxter broke down the inspiration for the two tracks, “King Of Nothing” and “Empty,” and we can’t be more excited to hear what they’ve been working on!

“King Of Nothing” focuses on the post show feelings, which can be totally opposite to what fans feel.  “This is a song about wanting to be the best,” states Baxxter. “We chose this life as touring musicians but it can be painfully lonely. We all want to be heard and play to massive crowds while making enough money that our parents won’t worry about our futures. I’m so proud of our accomplishments as a band but some nights, after the show ends and those crowds leave the venue, when you’re in the back seat of a dark van, you feel like you’re not doing enough and those dreams you have become nightmares of what you’ll never achieve. You can be on top of the world and have nothing.”

Broadside continue to prove themselves as the new kings of heavy lyrics paired with bouncy pop melodies and they showcase that on “Empty.”  When asked about the new track, Baxxter playfully admits,  “I was going through a real out of body misery when writing this song. The duality of a being a broken-hearted romantic splits a person. On one hand, you’ve been wronged, you should run and never look back. On the other, the rewarding time spent and memories made keep you trapped in the worrisome ‘what if this person leaves’ psychosis. I wanted to write a dance-y song making fun of how unfortunate it is to be in love, sometimes.”

SecretFangirls.com Interview Neverkept

Philadelphia based rock band Neverkept kicked off the Summer with brand new tunes and a new video for “Vertigo” which is already racking up the views.  Formerly knows as “Count To Four,” and earning the reputation of one of the hardest working underground DIY bands in recent years, the guys agreed it was time for a new start. They tapped Broadside guitarist Dorian Cooke to take over lead vocals and re-branded with a name that reflected their personal convictions of always striving for your goals and acknowledging the possibility of “what if.”

Now, Jay, Dorian, Aaron, Pete, and Neale are pushing forward with promises of more new music and more shows.  We caught up with Dorian Cooke and Jay Miller before they hit the stage in NYC with PVMNTS earlier this month and talked about what record they’d take on a road trip, who they would fangirl over, and what’s next for Neverkept!

Neverkept Release Debut Single – “Vertigo”

Formerly known as Count To Four, the band are rebranding with a brand new singer (Broadside guitarist Dorian Cooke) and a new name!  Neverkept are here to stay despite the notion of the name.  They have a reputation as being one of the hardest working unsigned underground DIY bands and they intend to keep that momentum!  The new name comes from the personal convictions of the band’s members as well as the music touching on the notion of realizing lost hope and acknowledging that possibility of “what if.”

Neverkept recently dropped their debut single since the name and lineup change called “Vertigo.”  The new track is a tour de force wrapped up with pure renewed energy. Watch the official music video below!

Album Preview: We Were Sharks – “Lost Touch”

Our latest Artist To Watch, We Were Sharks are hitting the road early in 2018 to gear up for the release of their brand new album Lost Touch on February 23rd.  The album is called Lost Touch but We Were Sharks haven’t lost touch with the genuine feeling and joy that pop punk brings to the entire scene.

“Beyond Repair” kicks off the album like shattering the glass walls surrounding the album.  Lost Touch as a whole shows the obvious personal and musical growth of the band from their previous releases and brings them to the forefront of the genre.  We Were Sharks are poised to take their rightful spot on the list of our favorite releases for 2018 so far.

“Hotel Beds” is a stand out track with the bouncey scream along chorus and contrasting verses.  However, “Stay” is the pinnacle of the album.  Lyrically and musically, “Stay” is the closest the band comes to radio perfection on the album which should be more than enough to push them through to Summer song playlist domination.

Broadside’s Ollie Baxter brings his sugary sweet vocals on “Late Bloomer.”  The track centers on the topic of keeping a hold on things you loved when you were young.  Ollie brings that something we were missing and really catapults the album through to the end.

Lost Touch is a solid listen start to finish filled with odes to the glory days of pop punk and sing along choruses.  We can’t wait to see what the future holds for We Were Sharks!

Lost Touch will be released February 23rd through Victory Records.  Pre-order bundles are available HERE and include exclusive items like posters, t-shirts, and hoodies.  Pre-order your copy on iTunes and Amazon so you can sing along on tour!

Broadside Release Music Video For “I Love You, I Love You. It’s Disgusting.”

Broadside are currently on tour in the UK supporting Trash Boat but the guys just released a super cute video for their ukulele centered song “I Love You, I Love You. It’s Disgusting.” from their latest album “Paradise.”

Frontman Ollie Baxxter directed the beachfront video and also shows that he’s a total romantic! When asked about the song, Ollie explained “This is a song for romantics. When you’re in love, you feel consumed in its warmth. I’m happy knowing that I’ve contributed to a very long list of love songs.”

Album Preview: Broadside’s “Paradise”- Due Out June 16th

Broadside’s sophomore album “Paradise” is being heralded as the ultimate Summer album and rightfully so!  Every track is filled with sunny riffs and soaring vocals urging the listener to chase their dreams and really embrace the good and bad things in their lives.   From the stark contrast between the upbeat music and the dark introspective lyrics, Broadside are balancing the two polar opposites in perfect harmony.

Singer Oliver Baxxter’s lyrics will hit close to home for many, frequently speaking out about anxiety on “Laps Around A Picture Frame,” online culture and feeling alone on “Summer Stained,” and self sabotaging thoughts on the sunny “Who Cares?” However, the best song on the album comes at the very end in the form of the island infused “I Love You, I Love You, It’s Disgusting.”  The ukulele driven love song is sure to be a favorite purely for its simple honesty.

When we sat down with Broadside just before the album release, Ollie spoke about his favorite song on the record, “Summer Stained.” “It’s about post-Warped Tour depression which I think will register well with people. And it’s half acoustic which is new for us.”  The song as a whole is a painful reminder that nothing good can stay like Warped Tour, which only lasts for the Summer.  The song can mean something different to every person who listens to it.

High points of the album include “Tunnel Vision,” charging full force about fitting in with your peers, and “Disconnect,” which tackles the attachment we have with social media “likes” that ultimately mean nothing.  Ollie asks “When’s the last time you felt alive?” begging the listener to disconnect, unplug your mind, and seize the day.  “Miss Imperius” might be our favorite track on the album solely due to it’s bouncy drum and bass lines in the verses and the ripping guitar solo!

Broadside have crafted the most sonically diverse and deeply pop infused record of their career so far and we can’t wait to see what’s in store because there’s no where to go but up from here! “Paradise” is due out June 16th through Victory Records.
