Steve Madden Music Announces Brooklyn Pop Up Show With PVRIS

Steve Madden Music just announced an exclusive pop up show in Brooklyn with Boston natives, PVRIS. For seven years, Steve Madden Music has hand picked rising artists to play special pop up shows in their stores. Eventually, the brand moved the shows to bigger venues like Music Hall Of Williamsburg and began holding the exclusive concerts monthly.  PVRIS will join the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Warpaint as part of this exclusive class of artists hand picked by one of the most iconic shoe brands.
PVRIS are the kind of band you stumble on through a friend and suddenly your life is divided in to two parts: before you knew about PVRIS and after.  Then you see them live and your life is divided again: before you saw PVRIS live and after.  Lynn Gunn, Alex Babinski, and Brian MacDonald put on a live show that is unlike any other – it’s electrifying, powerful, and yeah, pretty much life changing. They’ve been keeping a low profile while they work on the follow up to their breakthrough debut album “White Noise” that featured “St. Patrick” and “My House” and we hope they debut some new material at this once in a lifetime show!

Tickets for this pop up show will be available starting April 7th at 12noon EST.  They are free however they are on a first come- first served basis so you have to be quick!

Tennis Tuesday: News Roundup

This Week’s Tournament:
Davis Cup

Last Week’s Winner:
Miami Open – Roger Federer

Roger Federer Wins Sunshine Double
Roger Federer’s incredible comeback continues!  He pulled off the “sunshine double” (aka winning both Indian Wells and Miami) for just the 3rd time in his career, defeating Rafael Nadal in the Miami Open final 6-3, 6-4.   It’s Federer’s 3rd title of the 2017, and the 3rd time he’s played and defeated Nadal this year.  2017 has been a fun year for tennis, hasn’t it?   Federer did say on court that he’d be sitting out most of the clay season and his next tournament would be Roland Garros.

Davis Cup Quarterfinals This Weekend
The Davis Cup is back April 7-9!  The World Group Quarterfinals are taking place in venues across Europe and Australia.  We’re looking forward to the tie between the US and Australia as John Isner, Jack Sock, Sam Querrey & Stevie Johnson take on Nick Kyrgios, Jordan Thompson, Sam Groth & John Peers.

Australia (host) vs USA
France (host) vs Great Britain
Belgium (host) vs Italy
Serbia (host) vs Spain

The #NextGen is Coming
#NextGen ATP stars Sascha Zverev and Jared Donaldson were both impressive in Miami.  Sascha defeated John Isner (saving 3 match points) and Stan Wawrinka en route to the Quarterfinals, where he fell to Nick Kyrgios in one of the best matches of the Miami Open.  Jared Donaldson played his way through qualifying and made it to the 4th round.  He eventually lost to Jack Sock, but his run in Miami brings him to a career high of 75 in the ATP rankings.

Tennis Watching Etiquette
We’ve covered concert etiquette before, and after watching the match between Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer last week, we feel the need to address tennis watching etiquette as well.  If you’re lucky enough to be watching a professional tennis match in person, here are some things to keep in mind.
1. Cheering in support of your favorite player is fine, but show some respect for the other player.  Calling out against them, cheering negative things, or playing linesman and calling close balls “out” is rude and distracting to both players.
2. Learn when to cheer and when to be quiet.  Generally speaking, if the ball is in play, that’s your cue to sit and watch.   Between points, cheering is welcome and encouraged!   But please do not applaud double faults and do not call out in between 1st and 2nd serves.
3. Wait for the changeovers to enter or leave your seats.  It’s distracting to both the players and the other fans in the stadium to have people constantly going in and out.
4. Enjoy points like this!

Simple Plan Add Summer “NPNHJB” Tour Dates

Normally we aren’t fans of Mondays but we’ll let this one slide because Simple Plan announced more dates for their 15th Anniversary Tour of “No Pads No Helmets…Just Balls” Tour for the Summer!  They’re taking our friends in Patent Pending out with them for this Summer round of dates and we’re so excited to finally see PTPG’s dreams of touring with Simple Plan come true.

In case you haven’t heard of Patent Pending before, 5 years ago, the guys in PTPG wrote an open letter – song actually, to Simple Plan begging them to let them open for the Canadians on a tour or even just one show.  The guys got the chance just before the official start of the NPNHJB Tour in NYC back in March to open and they had such a blast!  The SP fans liked them too because everyone was dancing and waving their pirate hooks in the air during the guys’ set.  They even helped Corey win the Crowd Swimming Championships that night!  I think that counts as a huge success. SP thought so too because they’re taking the guys on tour officially!!

Check out the new Summer dates below and get your tickets when they go on sale on Friday, April 7th.

NPNHJB Summer 2017 Tour Dates ft. Simple Plan & Patent Pending
Aug 18th – The Intersection – Grand Rapids, MI – Buy Tickets
Aug 19th – Bogart’s – Cincinnati, OH – Buy Tickets
Aug 20th – Egyptian Room – Indianapolis, IN – Buy Tickets
Aug 22nd – First Ave – Minneapolis, MN – Buy Tickets

Watch Patent Pending’s plead 5 years ago for SP to take them on tour.  Sometimes, writing a catchy song explaining how big of a fan you are will work!!

If you haven’t booked your cabin for Warped Rewind At Sea, they’re selling out fast for this once in a lifetime 4-day cruise featuring Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, The Starting Line, Reel Big Fish, Mayday Parade, Less Than Jake, and so many more amazing artists!

Chase Atlantic Drop Part Two

Chase Atlantic are rallying for the number one spot on your Summer playlist with their moody and genre bending sound.  Clinton, Mitchel, and Christian just dropped “Part Two” which serves as the next installment of music from the Australian trio that will add up to their debut album.  This release has more of a pop vibe than the first part and we can’t stop listening!

The guys have said they’re releasing their debut album in parts since they were gone for so long creating the new sound and making sure the new music is just right.  We can’t wait to hear what else Chase Atlantic have in store for fans since they’re into doing new and innovative things like releasing their music video for “Into It” on Snapchat!

SecretFangirls.com Interview Drawing North

Australia is showing the world that they’re more than just beautiful beaches filled with cute surfer dudes, kangaroos around every corner. The continent is home to talented artists like 5SOS, Keith Urban, and Flume.  Drawing North are the latest musical export to come to the United States from Australia.  Po, Drew and Jake blend fun new wave electronica sounds with an indie band’s work ethic.

Drawing North got their start writing pop demos in a garage, and quickly built a fanbase in their hometown of Canberra, Australia. They sold out their first ever headlining show and have toured  across the continent, playing festivals like Vans Warped Tour Australia and Australia Celebrates live.  Joel Madden of Good Charlotte showed his love for the band, and we can’t think of a better endorsement!

The band is ready to take the US by storm!   Drawing North are about to release their brand new EP that has a new sound for the band with the same heartfelt lyrics fans have come to love from Drew, Po, and Jake.   We got to sit down with the guys recently to chat about who they would fangirl over, their must haves on tour (dogs!), and their new single “Stay” that comes out on April 5th.  Watch our interview and get to know your new favorite Aussie band!

Sign up here for the Drawing North newsletter and you will receive  “Stay” for free, in your inbox  before it gets released on April 5th!

Tennis Tuesday: News Roundup

This Week’s Tournament:
Miami Open – Miami, FL USA

Rafael Nadal Plays 1000th Career ATP Match
Nadal played the 1000th match of his career at the ATP World Tour Level at the Miami Open over the weekend.   He defeated Phillip Kohlschreiber 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 to gain his 822nd victory on tour.  The match was just the 3rd time in Rafa’s career that he’s come back to win the match after getting “bageled” in the first.  Nadal takes on Nicolas Mahut in the 4th round in Miami today.   Vamos!

Shania Twain Meets Stan The Man
Our fangirl worlds collided over the weekend when one of our favorite artists, Shania Twain, posted a photo with one of our favorite players, Stan Wawrinka!

Iggy The Iguana Takes Over Miami
Tommy Haas also posted a photo with the now famous “Iggy” the Iguana at the Miami Open.  Haas captured the selfie mid-match, after a giant iguana came onto the court, halting play as linesmen scrambled to catch him.  (He’s a fast one!)

Linesman Frankie Melendez, who eventually caught the iguana, is the real hero.

Jo-Wilfred Tsonga Welcomes First Child
Tsonga announced the birth of his son on social media.  We hope he gets his dad’s amazing hair (and tennis skills!)

We are all fangirls at heart.
