Sam Hunt’s New Single: “Take Your Time”

Following the success of his first platinum single, “Leave The Night On,” Sam Hunt revealed that his next single to hit country radio this week will be “Take Your Time.”  The track is off of Sam’s debut album, “Montevallo,” which went straight to the top of the charts when it was released in October.  Sam officially debuted the single on “Late Night with David Letterman” last night.  Watch his performance below!

We love the play on words and the mix of influences you can hear in “Take Your Time.” Sam’s music is a blend of country with some 90s R&B.   Pickup a copy of “Montevallo” on iTunes now!

The Lipstick Graffiti Tour, Sam’s first headlining tour, sold out in just minutes in venues around the country.  If you missed out on getting tickets, stay tuned for more dates!

Kendall Schmidt Releases “Blame It On The Mistletoe”

We always try to add some new Christmas music to our playlists every year, to go along with the essentials.  (That list would include *NSYNC’s “Home For Christmas,” Hilary Duff’s “Santa Clause Lane,” and “Music From The O.C. Mix 3: Have A Very Merry Chrismukkah.”) So we were thrilled to hear that one of our favorite boyband members was releasing a Holiday single!

Kendall Schmidt, from Big Time Rush and Heffron Drive, just released “Blame It On the Mistletoe.”   The track will definitely get you in the Holiday spirit.  Listen below and pickup a copy on iTunes now!

Z100’s Jingle Ball All Access Lounge with Shawn Mendes, Before You Exit, Rixton & More

Z100’s Jingle Ball is by far one of the biggest concerts of the year – and one of the hardest to score tickets to.   If you didn’t manage to snag a pair, you still have the chance to see some big names perform at the Z100 All Access Lounge before the concert – for free!   The party will take place from 12pm to 6pm at Hammerstein Ballroom, on December 12th.   The All Access Lounge features performances throughout the day, interactive games, and a chance to win Jingle Ball tickets or meet and greets with some of the artists.

Since it’s a free event, we’re sure it will fill up fast so be sure to get there early!  The first 200 people in line with a Coca Cola product (specifically a 16 or 20 oz) will be able to cut the line and enter first.  Sounds like a fair trade, especially since you’ll need the caffeine!   Check out the lineup and all the info below.

The Friday Five: Sexiest Men Alive

One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions is the release of People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.  It’s the perfect reading material for your car/plane/train/bus ride home.  We can’t help but feel like this year’s list is a little bit lacking.  Here’s who we would include if we could takeover People for a day.  (sidenote: if you haven’t seen the episode of “Don’t Trust The B” where James Van Der Beek receives the sexiest man honor, do yourself a favor and watch it now).

1. Sam Hunt
This up and coming country singer was recruited for the NFL but decided music was his true calling.  And thank god because Sam Hunt’s deep voice and his thick Georgia drawl are part of his charm.  He’s a talented singer and songwriter, with a unique sound incorporated his wide range of influences.  Oh, and his rapping skills are on point too. Grab a copy of Sam Hunt’s debut album “Montevallo” on iTunes or Amazon now so you can sing along on the “Lipstick Grafitti” Tour.

2. Austin Mahone
The one man boyband is basically all of your favorite boyband members in one.  He’s currently in the studio working with Max Martin on his debut full length album.  We’re hoping it will capture more of that 90s pop sound we heard on “The Secret” EP.   Since Martin is responsible for “I Want It That Way,”  “Baby One More Time, and “It’s Gonna Be Me,” among countless others, we’re sure it will.   Make sure to pickup a copy of the new Teen Vogue for some beautiful wall-worthy photos.

3. Jake Miller
Florida born singer/rapper Jake Miller definitely qualifies as “sexy” – have you seen his muscles?  Any guy who can make a goofy face and still look good is definitely a keeper!  Jake is also very good about interacting with his fans on Twitter.  Be sure to pick up a copy of Jake Miller’s new EP “Lion Heart” on iTunes or Amazon now!

4. Grigor Dimitrov
HEART EYES EMOJI  all day because not only is Grigor one of the hottest young tennis stars (just look at that backhand!), he also is very sweet to his fans – he even stopped a match to help a ball girl who fainted (probably at the sight of him). Grigor also appreciates the finer things in art like art, custom designer travel bags, and puppies!!  Make sure to follow him on Instagram.

5. Ryan Lewis
Ryan Lewis is just a beautiful man.  Not only is he a talented producer/DJ, he’s also been using his popularity for a good cause and launched the charity The 30/30 Project to help aid those impacted by HIV/AIDs.  Lewis is definitely the lesser known member of the Grammy winning duo (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis if you’re totally clueless), as spoofed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  That definitely would not have been our reaction to spotting Ryan Lewis in the park.

SecretFangirls.com Interview With Brett Steinberg

Our latest Artist To Watch, Brett Steinberg, just released his album “Age of Wonder” today!  Brett talked to us about everything from what music he listened to growing up to how he got the title for his album.   Read out interview below and be sure to pickup a copy of “Age of Wonder” on iTunes now!

https://soundcloud.com/brettsteinberg/nothin

SecretFangirls.com: Your new album is out now!  How did you come up with the title, “Age of Wonder”?

Brett Steinberg: The idea of “Age of Wonder” was inspired by a time in my life, that by all means I’m still living through, in which I’ve been questioning everything – our meaning, our purpose, why relationships of all forms fail and why they’re so significant to our happiness. I’m curious about everything and there is a positive sense of wonderment pertaining to that, but there is also the downside, because once you start questioning your own life, you’re faced with questions that you might fear to know the answer to. Ultimately, this sense of wonderment is a positive quality in my life, but it brings interesting, thought-provoking challenges that I address in this record. The ideas of potential loss of innocence and maintaining genuine appreciation and curiosity towards the world are prevalent on the album.

SF: How did you get started in music?

BS: I took piano lessons in 2nd grade, but when I realized that the ballad of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” was not particularly my jam, I quit the piano for a while. I then started singing in 6th or 7th grade. My mom would play “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel or Michael Buble’s version of “Feeling Good” on the piano and I would sing along. I fell in-love with those heartfelt, anthemic piano ballads. I really picked up music in 8th grade when I learned piano and guitar and realized that people enjoyed my singing…at least sometimes! I simultaneously learned to create while learning my instruments because besides from introductory classes in school and occasional advice from my mom, I learned most of what I know from experimenting with chords and melody without any context of formal scales, progressions, or chord names. By no means am I classically trained; I’m mostly self taught.

SF: What song means the most to you on your new album?

BS: “We’re Not Done,” holds the most meaning to me because in the song I basically take a look at all that has gone wrong to the relationships and morals that I thought I knew the truth of growing up, and I say that I’m not giving up on them. I question which side I should take in both the internal and external struggles I’m fighting pertaining to growing up and understanding what it all means. This song is really a stand for keeping hope even in times that seem bleak. Relationships mend, and hindsight is 20/20, but this song was written in the thick of the battle and yet I was still able to understand that in the greater scheme of things, everything works itself out if you maintain a level head and a spark of perseverance.

SF: What artist(s) would you love to collaborate with?

BS: Coldplay, The Fray, Paul McCartney, Ryan Tedder, John Mayer, Jay-Z, Rick Rubin, Imagine Dragons, Alicia Keys, etc. I’d love to collaborate with so many incredible artists for different reasons. To grow as an artist myself would be a big one.

SF: What music did you listen to growing up?

BS: As a kid I exclusively listened to “Livin La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin until I was around 6 or 7. Then I got into Michelle Branch’s “Everywhere” and Vanessa Carlton’s “1000 miles” and those kinds of piano ballads when I was probably 8 to 10. I then had a huge phase listening to a lot of Nickelback and Linkin Park, during their “Minutes to Midnight” era. Then I heard John Mayer and my world changed. Shortly after that I heard “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay and fell in love with this piano driven anthemic alternative rock. I’ve mainly been inspired by pop/rock ever since.

SF: How would you describe your sound?

BS: Piano driven pop/rock with some soul. I’ve worked on that genre labeling for many years now, ha!

SF: Now that the album is out, what’s next for you?

BS: I’m playing a bunch of shows in support of the record and have printed CD’s out that I’ll be selling at all future shows. Besides that, I look forward to making more memories at shows and meeting as many people as possible. I love to connect with people through music and intend to keep doing so. Also, I’m always creating and writing; that never stops!
