The Vamps Debut Album “Meet The Vamps” is Out Now!

The Vamps highly anticipated debut album “Meet The Vamps” is out now in the UK and Europe!  We have heard snippets of all of the songs and we have to say, this album is going to be huge.

When we saw The Vamps in NYC at Gramercy Theatre, they blew us away with their new songs featured on the album.  Watch “Girls On TV” Live from Gramercy Theatre below!

We are still waiting on a US release date for the album, but we’re hoping it will be sometime this summer to go along with The Vamps tour with Austin Mahone!   The album will be out April 25th in Australia and New Zealand, and May 21st in Japan.

To celebrate “Meet the Vamps” release, the band will be having several meet & greets, performances and signings around Europe.  Check here for details on how you can Meet The Vamps!

The Friday Five: Songs On Repeat This Week

1. Jackson Guthy – Pretty Lady
We were introduced to Jackson Guthy on the BTR Summer Break Tour last summer and after sitting through his set two times, we were totally into every single song by the third go around! His songs are infectious and catchy. Get to the 5SOS tour early because Jackson is definitely an opening act you’ll want to know. Grab a copy of Jackson’s new song “Young & Single” on iTunes now!

2. The Vamps – Girls On TV
At their first headlining show here in NYC, The Vamps played a few new songs from their debut album “Meet The Vamps” (out now in Ireland, the UK and most of Europe on Monday!). One of those was Girls On TV. It’s got a reggae feel, but still displays The Vamps acoustic driven sound. Pick up a copy of “Meet The Vamps” on iTunes UK now! Check out all of their signings around the UK this week HERE!

3. Cody Simpson – Surfboard
One of our favorite stars on this seasons Dancing With The Stars, Cody Simpson, released his new single “SURFBOARD” to great reviews. It’s been on constant repeat in the fangirl office since it dropped. Pick up a copy of “SURFBOARD” on iTunes and don’t forget to watch and vote for Cody on DWTS every Monday.

4. Austin Mahone – MMMYeah
We can’t say enough awesome things about Austin Mahone but we’ll keep trying. The one man boyband recently celebrated his 18th birthday by announcing his debut album “The Secret” as well as announcing a headlining tour featuring The Vamps and Fifth Harmony. Tickets are on sale now and with every ticket order, you receive a digital copy of Austin’s album!

5. 5SOS – She Looks So Perfect
5 Seconds Of Summer kick off their North American headlining tour today and what better way to celebrate their EP debuting in the top spot on the Billboard Digital Albums Chart! Like Billboard, we totally dig their power pop punk sound and we can’t wait to see them in NYC. Pick up a copy of the US Edition of the “She Looks So Perfect EP” on iTunes and sing along all summer long!

Austin Mahone to Release Debut Album “The Secret” May 27th, Heading Out on Summer Tour with The Vamps!

It may be Austin Mahone’s 18th birthday today, but he surprised everyone by giving US a present!  Austin called into Elvis Duran to share the news that his debut album will finally be released on May 27th!!   The album, titled “The Secret,”is one of our most anticipated of the year.  We love all of Austin’s singles, and his 90s pop influences, so we can’t wait to hear it!

As if that wasn’t enough, Austin also announced that he will be heading out on a summer tour!  We caught the one-man boy band at Hammerstein Ballroom on the MTV Artist To Watch Tour back in March, and were majorly impressed.  It’s hard to believe that he’s going from small venues to arenas in such a short time!

Even more exciting?  Austin’s bringing The Vamps, one of our favorite new bands, on tour with him!

Tickets go on sale next week!  Members of Austin’s fanclub, Mahomie High, can access an exclusive pre-sale starting on Tuesday, April 8th at 10am.  Join now if you haven’t already!  (We are usually against fan names, but Mahomies is just awesome).  He’ll also be having VIP packages, so stay tuned for details on how you can meet Austin!  Check out our fangirl handbook for advice on how to make the most of your meet & greet.

But wait, there’s more!  All concert goers will get a copy of Austin’s album, “The Secret,” with every ticket order!

The Friday Five: The Best New Imported Bands

It’s time for another Friday Five!  This week we’re looking at our favorite freshly imported bands, hailing from the UK, Australia and even New Zealand.

1. The Vamps
Shout out to Ciara Bravo for introducing us to The Vamps about a year ago on Twitter!  We clicked on the video for “Can We Dance” and loved their fun sound and video.  They recently had a sold out show at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre, their first US headlining show ever.  Their debut album will be released on April 14th in the UK.  We’re still waiting on a US release date, but we hear The Vamps will be back stateside in May!  Stay tuned for more details.  You can get their single, “Wildheart,” on iTunes now!

2. The Strypes
We just discovered The Strypes last week, when we randomly decided to look them up after seeing them in a BBM ad in Rolling Stone.    The quartet hails from Ireland, and although they are just 16-18 years old, their music sounds way beyond their years.   They remind us of acts like The Hives and The Strokes, and draw their influences from The Yardbirds and early Rolling Stones.  Of course, we realized that we missed their sold out show at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom by a mere 5 days.  We hope they’ll be back soon!   They just booked a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and their debut album, “Snapshot,” was just released in the US on March 18th.  Download it now on iTunes or Amazon!

3. 5SOS
As said on last week’s New Girl, “Are you Australian, or from heaven?”  5SOS hails from Australia, and sold out their first US headlining tour in a matter of minutes.  The Stars, Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour kicks off in April! With influences (and friends) like All Time Low, Green Day, and Blink-182, 5SOS are definitely the pop punk band we’ve been looking for since 2008.  We can only hope they strike gold in America! We think that pop punk is more about how you view life and less about your melodies and bass lines. The common thread and bottom line: they don’t take life too seriously and sometimes (read: 82% of the time) it’s totally okay to act like you’re 17 and hear “You should start acting your age” from your friends…to which you should always answer “What’s my age again?”

4. Bastille
This UK rock band have been making a huge splash Stateside. Their fourth single, “Pompeii” has been taking over the radio, spawning covers left and right. With a reissue of their debut album, Bastille are poised to be the big rock group for 2014. The band start a US spring tour in three days, starting in Chicago and ending their run at The Governors Ball in NYC in June. Get all the dates HERE and pick up a copy of “Bad Blood” on iTunes now!

5.  Titanium
Otherwise known as New Zealand’s First Boy Band.  Feeling left out of the fine world of  boy bands, a NZ Radio Station, The Edge, held a competition to form the country’s first.   Contestants went through a “boy band bootcamp,” where they practiced their dance moves, harmonies, and likely saying their band name in unison.  Titanium later broke a record by being the first act in New Zealand to have 3 singles in the Top 40 at the same time – just shows you how deprived they were of the magic of the boy band!  And we’re talking legit boy bands here.  Titanium even hooked up with America’s boy band, Big Time Rush, to write a few songs for their album.  We’re still holding out for a Titanium / Big Time Rush tour in the US!

Bonus:  Flight of the Conchords, because it’s impossible to write about the music of New Zealand without thinking of the country’s “almost award winning 4th most popular folk music duo.”

The Vamps Reveal “Meet the Vamps” Tracklisting

With April 14th fast approaching, The Vamps revealed the official track listing for their highly anticipated debut album, “Meet The Vamps”.  Click on a track to hear a special sneak peak at the song from the album! Check out the track listing below.

1. Wild Heart
2. Last Night
3. Somebody To You
4. Can We Dance
5. Girls On TV
6. Risk It All
7. Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)
8. Another World
9. Move My Way
10. Shout About It
11. High Hopes
12. She Was The One
13. Dangerous
14. Lovestruck
15. Smile

Usually when we hear new songs at a concert, we feel awkward because we can’t sing along but that definitely wasn’t the case when The Vamps premiered the songs “Last Night” and “Girls On TV” during their NYC show. The Vamps’ cover of  Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecilia” is absolutely amazing live and shows off how talented they are.

Hopefully there will be American release dates soon.  The Vamps said they’ll be back in the States in late April and have some exciting things in store for the US this summer!

Be sure to visit TheVamps.net and follow the band on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

The Friday Five: Albums We’re Looking Forward To in 2014

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for The Friday Five! This week, we’re picking five upcoming albums that we are totally excited to hear. So, let’s get started!!!

1. AJR – Title and Release Date TBD
AJR’s unique sound makes us excited about music again! The indie pop band, comprised of brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met, are the true definition of an independent, DIY artist.  We’ve loved every song we’ve heard from them so far (seriously, it’s impossible to pick a favorite), and can’t wait to hear more!  They’re tentatively naming their debut album “Living Room,” as much of the album was written, produced and recorded from their parents’ living room in NYC.  The album should be released sometime this Spring.  Are you ready?

While you wait for the album, make sure to download their EP 6foot1!

2. Hunter Hayes – “Storyline” (due May 6th)
Hunter is another artist who makes us excited about music again. The multi-talented singer not only wrote or co-wrote every track on his self-titled debut, he also played the 30+ instruments used in the recording.  We had the opportunity to attend his “Encore” release concert at Webster Hall last summer, and were blown away by his musicianship.   We’re thrilled to finally be seeing Hunter live again on the “We’re Not Invisible Tour,” and for his new album, “Storyline!”   And have you heard about how you can be a part of Hunter’s attempt to break the world record for most concerts in 24-hours?

You can pre-order “Storyline” now and get an instant download of the tracks “Invisible” and “Wild Card!”

3. Dan + Shay – “Where It All Began” (due April 1st)
We hadn’t heard of country duo Dan + Shay until they were announced as the opening act on Hunter Hayes’ “We’re Not Invisible Tour,” but it was love at first listen when we heard their single “19 You + Me.”  The duo met last year in Nashville, and started writing together the next day.   If the rest of their album is anywhere near as good as the tracks they’ve released so far, including “What You Do To Me” and “Show You Off,” we may have our new favorite summer album.

You can pre-order their debut album, “Where It All Began,” now and get an instant download of all 3 tracks!

4. Austin Mahone – Title and Release Date TBD
It’s hard to believe that after releasing so many hit singles, we STILL don’t know when Austin’s debut album will be released.  Austin just wrapped up his first headlining tour with MTV, and we’re hoping we’ll have an announcement for a new tour and album before the summer!

Be sure to follow Austin on Twitter for updates and get his latest single, “MMM Yeah” on iTunes!

5. The Vamps – Title TBA  (due April 14th in the UK; US Date TBD)
Unfortunately for now there is no US release date for this album, but we are eagerly awaiting the release date!    We love The Vamps energetic sound and after a very solid set at their headlining show in NYC, we’re looking forward to hearing more!

While we wait for an official US release date, you can pickup their single Wild Heart on iTunes!

The Vamps Debut Album Will Be Out April 14th!

FINALLY!!!! Another one of our favorite new artists have a release date for their highly anticipated debut album!

Mark your calendars because during a live chat yesterday, The Vamps announced that they are releasing their debut album on April 14th!

We are so excited for everything the future holds for Tristan, Brad, Connor, and James! They’re such sweet guys, and full of talent!!

For more updates, visit TheVamps.net and don’t forget to follow The Vamps on Twitter and Facebook.

Show Me the Meaning of Being a Boy Band

It seems like the term “boy band” is being very loosely thrown around these days. Just because a group of young, good-looking men are in a band together, this does NOT make them a boy band.  If you go by this rule, then we’d have to call The Strokes and Vampire Weekend boy bands.  I think we can universally agree that they are not.

So, what exactly is a “boy band” then?  Let’s consult the dictionary!

Boy band (noun):  a group of young men who perform popular songs together and dance as a group.

Now compare this to the definition of a band:

Band (noun): a group of musicians who play music together.

See the difference?  The biggest being that boy bands DANCE.   We’d also add that they tend to dress in matching/similar outfits, and are known for their harmonies.

Just because a group of young, cute guys are in a band, and in many cases being marketed to younger audiences, it does NOT mean they are a boy band.  Now, here are some examples.

NKOTB – Boy band!

Big Time Rush – Boy band!

Backstreet Boys – Boy band!

Jonas Brothers – NOT a boy band!

The Vamps – NOT a boy band!

Midnight Red – Boy band!

5SOS – NOT a boy band!

AJR – NOT a boy band!

NSYNC – Boy band!

Got it?  In summary, being boys in a band does NOT make you a boy band.  Please choose your words wisely.

And if you’re a group of boys in a band, and you don’t dance OR play instruments?  We’re just not sure what to call you.

For example, The Wanted – Props for trying though!  Dancing is hard.
