Dierks Bentley Announces New Album, “Black”

Dierks Bentley just made our Monday by announcing he’s releasing a brand new album set for release in early 2016 called “Black!”  While there is no official release date yet, you can pre-order the album now at Dierks.com and get a special “Black Card,” which grants you exclusive access to songs, merch and other surprises.  You’ll also be entered in a contest to go to and meet Dierks on opening night of his 2016 tour AND win two tickets to EVERY SHOW on the tour.   (Dierks totally understands fangirls, this is the best contest ever…who wouldn’t want to follow Dierks around all Summer?!?)

As Dierks told Entertainment Weekly, the new album is inspired by Dierks’ decade long  marriage with his wife Caroline, whose maiden name is Black. The album explores the deepest corners of what it’s like to be in such a a strong relationship.  The heartfelt album is rumored to have a big rock sound to it, which is something country fans are no stranger to, and neither is Dierks.  He’s not afraid to change up his sound saying “If I was making a record to just to make a record… I would quit.”

Pre-sales for the album are available now on Dierks’ official website.  Join Dierks’ fanclub, The Congress to get exclusive first access to pre sale tickets and other cool prizes!  Stay tuned for an announcement of Dierk’s 2016 tour dates!

The Friday Five: 2015 Albums of the Year (Country)

It was way too hard to narrow down all of our favorite albums this year to just 5, so we split between pop and country.  Here are our favorite country albums that were released in 2016!  (Okay so we picked 6, deal)

1.Thomas Rhett – “Tangled Up”
Thomas rode the momentum of his hit single “Makes Me Wanna” and the funky vibes of “Crash And Burn” into an an album full of soulful, R&B tinged jams, all country at heart.  “Die A Happy Man,” which Thomas wrote for his wife Lauren, will make you cry; “Vacation” will make you dance, and “I Feel Good” will turn any day around.

2. Hunter Hayes – “The 21 Project”
2015 was the year of trying new things for Hunter Hayes, including how he released music.  After dropping digital singles throughout the Summer, Hunter released a 3-disc set featuring 7 songs as acoustic, studio and live versions.   “Saint Or A Sinner” is one of our favorite songs of the year, no matter how we listen to it.

3. Kacey Musgraves – “Pageant Material”
Kacey’s latest album sparkles just as much as she does on stage.  She might not be “Pageant Material,” but she sure is great at crafting clever lyrics that anyone can relate to.  Each track has a story of it’s own and they all come together to create one of our favorite country albums of 2015.

4. A Thousand Horses – “Southernality”
What do you get when you mix Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers Band, and a whole lot of Southern moonshine? A Thousand Horses released the best “throwback” country rock album this year that we’ll be spinning for years to come.  Standout songs are the title track, “Trailer Trashed,” and “Travelin’ Man.”

5. Old Dominion – “Meat and Candy”
Even the band has commented on the strange name of their debut album but “Meat and Candy” is actually a fitting title for an album that has lots of sweet jams along with some more substantial tracks.  Their live show is not to be missed.

BONUS: Cam – “Untamed”
Released last week, Cam’s album barely made the cut but it’s one of the strongest debut albums we’ve heard in a long time!  We’re still kicking ourselves for not picking up one of those cute yellow flash drive bracelets when we saw Cam open for Dan+Shay!

SecretFangirls.com Interview Hunter Hayes

We chatted with the incredible Hunter Hayes at the T.J. Martell Foundation Family Day at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC, where Hunter was performing later in the day.   Learn what Hunter’s favorite part of making “The 21 Project” was, and what fans can look forward to in 2016.  (Hint: more tour dates!)  Watch our interview below!

Cole Swindell Releases “You Should Be Here”

Country star Cole Swindell just dropped the first single from his much anticipated sophomore album, due in early 2016.  The track,  “You Should Be Here,” is an emotional track Cole wrote with hit songwriter Ashley Gorley after losing his father a couple of years ago.  Cole hopes the song will resonate with anyone who has lost or is missing someone. As Cole told iHeartRadio, “this is the song I moved to Nashville to write.”   Listen to the track below!

The Friday Five: Dierks Bentley

It’s our country bae Dierks Bentley’s 40th Birthday to day!  The man just gets better and better with age.  It was hard to narrow it down to only 5 Dierks jams, but in honor of his bday here are some of our favorites!

1.”What Was I Thinkin”

2. “5-1-5-0”

3. “Riser”

4. “I Hold On”

5. “Come A Little Closer”

Bonus: “Drunk On A Plane”

Cole Swindell’s Down Home Tour Kicks Off In NYC

Cole Swindell’s second “Down Home” Tour kicked off last night at the Playstation Theater in NYC. Cole’s tour was the second country tour in as many weeks to have the first show in New York, and with good reason. (Thomas Rhett and Brett Eldredge’s “Suits and Boots” Tour hit Terminal 5) The country fans in NYC are crazy, passionate and excited about the music. The whole venue was singing and dancing all night long, even to the house music. Cole is the first country artist to headline the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour (alumni include Macklemore, Iggy Azalea, and Wale)

P1370683

The crowd’s energy was off the charts for the first night of tour and Cole was just as hype, making sure to give attention to the fans in the balconies, in the pit, and all the way to the fans in the back row of the venue! He encouraged fans to “get up” on each others shoulders, while many in the crowd were busy doing 12-ounce curls. Let’s get weird, y’all!

P1370661

It was one of those shows where you found yourself going “YES! THIS IS MY JAM!” for pretty much every song in the set. Cole has had 4 #1 hits from his debut album and counting, the latest being his single “Let Me See Ya Girl.” (OUR #1 JAM). Cole got his start working as a songwriter in Nashville and he’s written hits for Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett & more.

P1370442

The tour was in support of Cole’s “Down Home Sessions II” EP, which was released last week. Cole played every track off the EP, and, judging from the crowd’s reaction, even more jams to add to your playlist. The tour also gave Cole the opportunity to get up close and personal with his fans, after spending most of the year in stadiums opening for Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean. Cole has definitely picked up some on stage pointers from Luke!

P1370626

Of course, it wouldn’t be a country show without a some “USA! USA!” chants, which were especially fitting for the Veterans Day show. Cole’s hit “Ain’t Worth The Whiskey” was also the perfect song to end the night, as Cole told the audience he’d been “waiting to sing this song all day.” With Cole waving an American flag sourced from the front row, the entire crowd sang the last chorus for the troops. Cheers to a good country song!

Thomas Rhett & Brett Eldredge Kick Off The “Suits and Boots” Tour in NYC

Thomas Rhett & Brett Eldredge kicked off the Suits and Boots Tour in style last night, with a sold out show at NYC’s Terminal 5.  The duo are the latest artists to headline CMT On Tour, which showcases the best rising talents in country music.   To make it a true co-headlining tour, Thomas & Brett will flip a coin each night of tour to decide who goes on first.  Thomas won the toss and elected to open.

P1370200
If we had to sum up a Thomas Rhett concert in one word, it would be FUN!  Thomas does his best to make sure that each and every person in the room is having the time of their lives and feels like they are a part of the show.   Whether he is shaking his south side or showing his softer side, Thomas is great at connecting with the audience.

P1370078
With his new album, Thomas is bringing lots of soul and funk into country music.  The title track from his new album, “Tangled,” moved seamlessly into a cover of “Uptown Funk.”  Tracks like “Anthem” and “Vacation” made it impossible not to start dancing along with him.   We think TR says it best himself: “This is the beat that puts the fire in your feet gives you the license to be a little crazy.”  The energy in the room was off the charts by the time Thomas left the stage.

P1370224

Thomas Rhett Setlist
Anthem
South Side
Makes Me Wanna
Tangled
Uptown Funk
It Goes Like This
Vacation
Die A Happy Man
T-Shirt
Playing With Fire (with Danielle Bradbery)
Get Me Some of That
Crash and Burn

P1370186
After a set change, Brett Eldredge emerged, launching right into his hit “Beat of the Music,” rocking a shimmery blue suit.  The “Suits & Boots Tour” is an interesting dynamic:  Brett’s style is more of a smooth crooner, in contrast with Thomas’ funky vibes.  An epic singalong occurred to his #1 hit “Mean To Me.”  We’re talking dudes up on each others shoulders epic.

P1370296
Brett later explained that he wanted to make music that people could dance to, laugh to, cry to before launching into “Wanna Be That Song.”

P1370316
Brett Eldredge Setlist

Beat of the Music
Fire
Time Well Spent
Mean To Me
Tell Me Where To Park
Drunk On Your Love
Lose My Mind
Going Away For A While
Wanna Be That Song
Don’t Ya
Shadow

P1370313
Both Brett and Thomas returned to the stage for the encore, pouring each other celebratory drinks. “Thomas Rhett gives Brett Eldredge Advice Time”  was one of the highlights of the show, as they launched into a medley of cover songs related to Brett’s girl problems.  We loved seeing the two interact and show their unique personalities.

P1370396
“Gold Digger” re-worked as an acoustic country song was something we didn’t know we needed until now.   Thomas instructed Brett to work on his dance moves, as he launched into “Whip/ Nae Nae.”  Thomas Rhett doing the stanky leg is one of the greatest things we have ever seen.  The duo ended the night with their track “You Can’t Stop Me,” from Brett’s new album “Illinois.”

P1370404
Rhett & Brett Setlist

Gold Digger
Neon Moon
The Way You Look Tonight
Hotline Bling
Whip Nae Nae
Drag Me Down
Real Good Man
You Can’t Stop Me

P1370406
Opening act Danielle Bradbery’s set highlighted her powerful voice and gave her a chance to show off some new tunes she’s been working on.  “Shot of Whiskey” got the night off to an energetic start.  Danielle later joined Thomas on stage for a duet to “Play With Fire,” which Thomas sings with Jordin Sparks on his album.
