The Friday Five: Jonas Brothers Songs

We caught the last stop of Nick Jonas’ mini tour in Brooklyn last night, in support of his new self-titled album out November 11th.   We’d be lying if we said we were totally over the Jo Bros unexpected breakup last fall  – after all, we’ve seen them in concert more than any other artist combined.   We’ve been singing Nick’s praises since circa 2007, but it’s nice to see that finally all of his secret fans have come out in the open and realized what we’ve been saying all along.

Last night’s show was a definite departure from the Jonas Brothers’ style, so let’s take a look back at our favorite Jonas songs.  If you’re feeling nostalgic, we suggest breaking out your “Bonus Jonas” edition DVD.

1. “Goodnight and Goodbye”
This is the song that cemented our love, when we saw them open for J Mac back in the day.  We have a vivid memory of Nick ripping off his bowtie during this song, leading to immediately fangirling and possibly a sign of things to come.

2. “Pushin’ Me Away”
The concert movie intro of this song is one of our faves because of how into it Joe gets, pretending to direct the string section and then it stops and his vocals kick in.   True story: we also had our own dance moves to this song.

3. “Sorry”
We’re proud to say that we were in attendance of the one and ONLY time they ever performed this song.  We’re glad someone was functioning enough to get this on video because we were probably sing-screaming at the top of our lungs (considering they had just brought out Robert Schwartzman)

4. “I Am What I Am”
Sorry Taylor, but THIS is the ultimate anti-hater jam.  If you don’t like it get with somebody else.  We may or may not have lost it when they played this song in a medley in 2010.

5. “What Do I Mean To You”
One of the last songs that they ever released (if you count giving the last album to your fan club for free as “releasing an album”), “What Do I Mean To You” was a dark song spawned from a failed relationship.  The breakup had fans wondering what we meant to them, too.

THE HEYDAZE Announce NYC Show at Gramercy Theatre!

NYC’s THE HEYDAZE just announced a headlining show at the Gramercy Theatre in December!  Their first headlining show ever over the summer was an advance sell out, so make sure you get tickets early for this one!  Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 31st at 10AM.

THE HEYDAZE
Gramercy Theatre – New York, NY
December 19th at 7pm

While THE HEYDAZE are a relatively new band, their catchy melodies and lyrical puns have led to prime opening spots on Jesse McCartney’s In Technicolor Tour over the summer, and they’ll be joining Timeflies’ After Hours Tour this week.   They’re definitely an artist to look out for in 2015, and hey don’t you want to be able to say you were at one of their first headlining shows before they blew up?

Listen to their latest single, “Don Juan,” below and head over to their Facebook page for some free jams.  Stay tuned for the music video, which the band recently filmed in LA.

Austin Mahone Mets Post-Game Concert 9/27

The New York Mets couldn’t have picked a better night for the final show of their concert series.  It was a perfect late September night that kicked off with hundreds of young dance and cheer squads from the tri-state area doing a fun routine to songs by Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande.  Dance Cheer Night meant there were significantly more teenage girls than usual in the stadium – oh, and the fact that Austin Mahone was performing after the game!  Between the cheerleaders and the fangirls in attendance, it’s safe to say that it was one of the loudest crowds Citi Field has ever seen (especially whenever Austin Mahone showed up on the big screen).

P1010768 copyAfter the game (which the Mets ended up winning 2-1 in the 9th!), a stage was quickly rolled out behind 2nd base for the concert, which started just after 10:30pm.   Austin performed a 12-song set, including an acoustic section that showcased his vocals and guitar playing.   And we all know he can dance!   The one man boy band showed off his smooth choreography to hits like “Banga Banga” and his latest, “Secret,” which sounds like a 2014 update of a 90s Backstreet Boys song (and is the Secret Fangirls theme song).  Austin even invited 1 lucky fan on stage to serenade during “U.”   We always knew he was a great dancer, but this was the first time we got to see his choreography up close, and we were majorly impressed.

Austin Mahone Mets Concert Series Set List
1. “Banga Banga”
2. “Say You’re Just A Friend”
3. “Shawty Shawty”
4. “Shadow”
5. “Human Nature”
6. “All Of Me”
7. “Secret”
8. “Till I Find You”
9. “U”
10. “All I Ever Need”
11. “What About Love”
12. “MMM Yeah”P1010067 copy

We can’t wait to see who the Mets will have in the lineup for the 2015 concert series!   Besides Austin, recent shows have included Boyz II Men and Third Eye Blind.  It’s a fun way to see your favorite artist, and to spend a perfect summer evening with some baseball, music and BBQ (or Shake Shack, or a burger…the food options at Citi Field are endless).

THE HEYDAZE Join Timeflies Fall Tour!

NYC’s THE HEYDAZE just announced they will be joining Timeflies on tour this Fall!   If you’re not familiar with them yet, then trust us: this is a band you need to know.  After having their first show, ever, back in April, they’ve already sold out NYC’s Webster Hall and scored an opening spot on the In Technicolor Tour with Jesse McCartney.   They were also a part of the iHeartRadio & Macy’s Rising Star Contest.  We love their acoustic-driven, catchy pop sound, and their knack for lyrical puns.  If you’re into the whole “driving around in the car with the top down, loving life kind of thing” then THE HEYDAZE are the band for you.

Listen to their ode to summer, “Arnold Palmer,” below!

Austin Mahone & The Vamps Summer Tour Stops at the Izod Center

We were lucky to catch The Vamps at their first headlining show ever back at The Grammercy Theatre in NYC in February, and at their MTV Artist to Watch show earlier this summer.  So it was amazing to see how far they’ve come in such a short time, and to see them play in an arena setting. (And up next: a stadium!)   The Vamps played all of their singles, as well as their fun covers of Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets” and “Cecilia.”  We loved seeing all of the support The Vamps had in the arena – nearly everyone was singing and dancing along during their set.  Impressive for a band that’s relatively new to the US, but they’ve  had great success here so far.  Their “Somebody To You” EP was released earlier this month and debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard.  Pickup a copy on iTunes now!

The Vamps Setlist
1. “Wild Heart”
2. “Last Night”
3. “Trumpets”
4. “Somebody To You”
5. “Can We Dance?”
6. “Cecilia”

IMG_2695Austin, Austin, Austin.  What can we say?  He just gets better and better each time we see him.  His dance moves are so smooth and flawless, and the choreography is always on point.   We love how he interacts with his dancers, another reason why we call him the “one man boyband.”  We imagine this is what it would have been like to see a 90s boyband back in the day.  And we thank him for that.  The concert was a non-stop dance party, for us anyway.  (Yes that was us doing the choreography to “Banga Banga,” “Shawty Shawty,” and “What About Love.”)

IMG_2709
Of course Austin is more than just 90s-era slow breakdowns and perfect slow leans that would make any *NSYNC fan cry.  He can sing, too.  And play the guitar, which he showcased in an acoustic set that included covers of George Strait’s “Check Yes Or No” and John Legend’s “All Of Me.”   Too add to our boyband nostalgia, Austin put on a pair of ripped jeans that would have made Donnie Wahlberg proud.  Our only complaint?  We miss those leather tanktops Austin usually breaks out for tour…

There are still a few dates left on the tour, check out all of the dates here!   Be sure to pickup a copy of “The Secret” EP so you can sing along during the show!  Our personal favorites are “Secret” and “Next To You.”

Austin Mahone Setlist:
1. “Banga Banga”
2. “Say You’re Just A Friend”
3. “Shawty Shawty”
4. “Say My Name”
5. “Say Somethin'”
6. “Can’t Fight This Love”
7. “Shadow”
8. “Check Yes Or No”
9. “The One I’ve Waited For”
10. “All Of Me”
11. “Secret”
12. “Till I Find You”
13. “U”

15. “Next To You”
