Jackson Guthy’s project North of Nine just released a new album called “IM@GINE” as a New Years present for eager fans. As Jackson wrote on Facebook, “This album brought me back to the beginning. Me at my piano making music I love.” The album is very much in Jackson’s style – think piano driven pop with some jazzy horns and funky beats alongside his unique, raspy vocals.
The album will be available on iTunes and Spotify January 8th but for now, you can listen to the entire collection of songs on SoundCloud below! Jackson also enlisted artists to design special album artwork to go along with each track. Learn more about each artist and the track that inspired them at NorthOfNine.com!
We’re off to the beach for a week and while we’ll never stop fangirling, we won’t be posting. Here are the songs we’ll be jamming to all week. Also, it’s Summer y’all! Go outside and enjoy!
1. Jake Miller – “Rumors”
We’d like to start some rumors with Jake! There isn’t one song we skip on this surprise EP, and we can probably sing the entire thing by heart already.
2. Austin Mahone – “Dirty Work”
Austin has been busy doing some dirty work for his Mahomies, and it’s worth it! Y’know this ain’t no 9-5, we’re going sundown to sunrise. Dirty Work!
3. North of Nine – “Better Off Together”
Jackson Guthy’s voice gets better every time we see North Of Nine live, and his band never fails to bring a grin to our faces during the set. We’ll ride or die with North Of Nine any day!!
4. Nathan Sykes – “Kiss Me Quick”
Nathan’s voice is what Bruno Mars would call “smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy!” This song will for sure be on full blast all Summer long.
5. MKTO – “Bad Girls”
We’re suckers for anything with a horn section and MKTO have that covered. They just dropped an EP with the same name.

North of Nine recently made their New York debut with an intimate showcase at Piano’s. The band played tracks off of their new EP, “Alive,” along with a solid cover of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. Highlights of the set included the band’s current single, “Can It Be You?” and a jazzy, piano driven track, “Alive,” that will hopefully make it to the album. We love North of Nine’s sound – pop rock that’s a little bit funky, infused with soulful keyboards. “Alive” is a perfect way to describe their energetic performance.
Lead singer Jackson Guthy was a solo artist before forming the band with friends from LA: Michael O’Grady (guitar), Edison Lo (bass), Nolan Frank (keyboards), and Rob Ketchum (drums). Each member of the band brings their own unique style. If you’re a fan of Jackson’s solo material (“Pretty Lady” was our JAM a couple of summers ago), you’ll love the rock-infused North of Nine.
Pickup a copy of the “Alive” EP on iTunes now and watch the video for “Can It Be You?” below. The single recently went to radio, and we’d love to see them charting north of #9 on the charts! The band, who is managed by Randy Jackson, made their debut at SXSW this year. They are definitely an artist to watch in 2015, and we can’t wait to hear more from this talented band.

It’s been a long week, feels like two. Here’s what we’ve been listening to!
1. “Single For The Summer” – Sam Hunt
Blame it on the fact that we’re seeing Sam Hunt again in 5 days (!!!!!) but we can’t get this song out of our head. The track is off of Sam’s debut album, “Montevallo,” which if you don’t already have you need. Go to iTunes.
2. “Ray Bans” – The Railers
We’ve basically been singing this nonstop since seeing The Railers again on the Tattoo (Your Name) Tour a couple of weeks ago. You can get it on “The Geraldine Sessions” EP.
3. “Tip Toeing In My Jawdins” – RiFF RAFF
File this one under stuff we didn’t mean to like, but accidentally do. The song has a catchy chorus, and is also a great anthem against haterz. The iconic video was released this week, even shouted out by Austin Mahone. Seriously, if you don’t love JODi HiGHROLLER, you can sleep outside in a non-Versace sleeping bag.
4. “We Ride” – North Of Nine
Fnagirl favorite North Of Nine kept it pretty simple with the official video for their debut single “We Ride,” featuring the band in performance shots.
5. “Shut Up And Dance” – Walk The Moon
The insanely catchy first single off the bands’ brand new album “Talking Is Hard” (out 12/2) has a very 80s themed video that we love! Bet you can’t shut up and dance while the band are showing off their goofy dance moves.
