Broadside Release New Single, “Cruel” Featuring Brian Butcher of The Home Team

Richmond, VA pop rock outfit, Broadside dropped their brand new single, “Cruel” featuring The Home Team’s Brian Butcher as they kick off on a huge tour together this Spring.

Lyrically, the new track tackles facing your fears when it feels like the world is working against you. When asked about the song, Broadside frontman Ollie Baxxter said, “For years, I’ve allowed my dreams to slip out of my hands from things I can’t control. “Cruel” as a song, is about hitting the nail on the head, allowing yourself to be washed out in the headlights of oncoming traffic. If you’ve got something to lose, the world is cruel, or it can be. So hold on tight.”

The music video, directed by Sam Link, finds Broadside posing as hotel clerks engaged in a high stakes heist! Be sure to catch Broadside and The Home Team on tour together this Spring with Honey Revenge. Check out the dates below and grab your tickets while they last!

Between You & Me Release First Independent Single “Nevermind” & Video

Australian powerhouse Between You & Me are “searching for the California kinda vibe” with the release of their latest single, “Nevermind,” the band’s first as a newly independent band.

Since loudly departing Hopeless Records last year, BY&M have drummed up some serious attention and huge tour slots for the rest of 2023, ready to take on the future with grace and determination. “Nevermind” is a heavily sarcastic, kiss off party anthem that frontman Jake Wilson says “perfectly captures the spirit of our band and our live show.”

The music video is full of fun tour footage from their last run across the USA. The guys skate through Beverly Hills, leap frog down the Santa Monica Pier, and hit the beach for a vibe-y, Summer video. Our favorite cameo is Matty Healy of The 1975 who rolls through in a classic red convertible when you least expect it!

“Nevermind” comes out ahead of Between You & Me’s North American tour with Real Friends and State Champs that we guarantee will be a night you won’t forget! Check out the tour dates below and grab your tickets while you can.

Jake Miller Drops Pop Punk Single, “I Forgot About You”

Chhoo-choo! The pop punk train is rolling and Jake Miller is hopping aboard. He just dropped a brand new single, “I Forgot About You” that’s packed with catchy hooks and a huge sing along chorus!

We love this side of Jake and he’s proving that he’s more than a one trick pony. He has seamlessly floated between rap, pop, mellow guitar driven rock, and now he’s cranking the energy up with a pop punk sound.

When asked about the new single, Jake shares, “My new single ‘I Forgot About You’ was so much fun to make. I’ve always wanted to incorporate pop punk into my music, with real electric guitars and real drums. I grew up listening to bands like The Almost, The Starting Line, Blink 182, and Boys Like Girls. I think this song is the perfect mixture of my classic pop sound with a bunch of the bands I grew up on.”

Jake Miller is also embarking on a 33 date nationwide tour with our good buds, Fly By Midnight! The “hi, i missed u” tour kicks off in Phoenix, AZ, hitting major markets like NYC, Chicago, LA, and everywhere in between.

Album Preview: We Were Sharks – “New Low”

We first met We Were Sharks several years ago and now they’re back with an epic new record, “New Low,” due out May 21st via Revival Recordings.

The record comes out of the gate swinging with the massive track, “Shameless” with a giant “F*CK YOU” inspired by co-writer and Silverstein guitarist, Paul Marc Rousseau’s in-studio admission of faking happiness while being absolutely miserable.

When asked about the new album, lead vocalist Randy Frobel shares, “‘New Low’ is a collection of songs that focuses on being down but not out. Since the release of ‘Lost Touch,’ we’ve experienced many of life’s ups and downs. We’ve lost relationships, friends, and family, and have gone through a lot of unexpected challenges that life has a tendency to throw at you when you least expect it. However, no matter what may have tried to keep us down or hold us back, we always take it and keep pushing forward.”

The record is full of massive sing along choruses and mosh pit starters liken “Bring Me Down,” and “Omens,” alongside pop punk ballads like “Burning House,” which reminisces on an old flame that’s swallowed up your entire world and left it in ashes.

The latest single ahead of the album release, “Over This,” will have fans screaming along and hitting replay immediately. About the track, guitarist Jason Mooney said: “A lot of songs tell stories, but when we talked about what ‘Over This’ was going to be about we decided to talk about a feeling or a vibe rather than go the narrative route. We wanted to talk about a feeling you have when you find yourself in a place in life where you should be filled with joy, happiness, pride, and essentially every positive feeling imaginable. Instead you feel lost with no sense of enthusiasm. Although you should appreciate the moments, you feel like you would rather be doing absolutely anything else and be anywhere else than where you are right now.”

We Were Sharks also wrote a lamenting follow up to the blisteringly fast “Ashley” from the last record, aptly titled “Ashley (Part 2).” Just as fast but a little bit longer, “Ashley (Part 2)” clocks in at one minute and 58 seconds but still captures the feelings of young love lost due to growing up. “The original ‘Ashley’ was a fun, fast song we’d had kicking around for years, but we hesitated to put it out because putting out a 70-second song is a death sentence,” said guitarist Colin Jacques.

The Canucks are proving they can’t be pigeonholed with their latest record and we can’t wait for shows to return to see how these translate to a live audience.

Waterparks Announce New Album, “Greatest Hits” Due Out May 21

Waterparks are hellbent on never making the same record twice and for that we are forever grateful. Awsten, Geoff, and Otto just dropped a brand new track, “Snow Globe” along with an announcement for their next record, “Greatest Hits” due out May 21st via 300 Entertainment.

“Snow Globe” is a glittery, techno-atmospheric tinged departure from the traditional “pop punk” sound but signifies the band’s growth as artists. Waterparks’ appeal to fans is their blatant disregard for rules, easily flitting between rock, hip-hop, pop perfection, electronica, and beyond.

The announcements don’t stop there. The band dropped a trippy new music video for “Snow Globe,” too! Watch the video below.

Hunter Hayes Drops New single & Video For “The One That Got Away”

Hunter Hayes is back with a brand new song and video for his latest single, “The One That Got Away” and we can’t be more stoked on it!   The track is the first song from his upcoming album “Red Sky (Part II)” due out later this year.  The new album is the companion to last year’s “Wild Blue (Part I).”  “Wild Blue” was one of our favorite albums of 2019, expressing all of the emotions related to going through a breakup or a difficult time in your life.

If the first single is any indication, “Red Sky” seems like it will focus more on the themes of freedom and moving on to a better situation.  Which is what we’re all hoping 2021 will bring!  “The One That Got Away” is a massive pop banger, a slight deviation from his heavy country sound and it will definitely get you dancing.

After Hunter’s out of this world run on “The Masked Singer,” he’s ready to be even more honest in his music.  We can’t wait to hear the rest of Hunter’s new album, and fingers crossed we’ll get a virtual concert from him again soon!  We’ve missed seeing him on stage so much, he’s one of our favorite performers as he truly gives each song a new life when performed live.

SECRETFANGIRLS.COM INTERVIEW Shiffley

It’s been nearly two years since our friends in Shiffley dropped new tunes but they’re back with a new track “RI₵H KIDS!” The new song brings their signature synth pop sweetness but if you dig deeper, it grapples with feelings of social inadequacy and despair built into a broken system.

We hopped on a virtual hangout to chat about the new song, their quarantine activities, and what’s on the horizon for the band in the coming year. Watch our interview with singer/songwriter Alex Gaines and drummer Bryan Contreras below!

Album Preview: girlfriends – “girlfriends” Due Out Oct 23rd

Inspired by the pop punk they grew up on, Travis Mills and Nick Gross enlisted legendary producer John Feldmann for their debut as girlfriends.

Travis Mills tossed his hip hip sound to the side to explore a more accurate sonic portrait of his emotional catharsis and process his feelings while tapping into influences like blink-182, 5SOS, All Time Low, Phoenix, and The 1975.

“This record has been a long time coming,” shares Mills. “It encapsulates all of my teenage despair with a perspective I haven’t been able to articulate until these last 5 years. It’s an exercise in honesty, vulnerability, angst and excitement with nostalgia as the glue that holds it all together. This is my journal entry. This is my life. This is girlfriends.”

Travis enlisted his good friend, Nick Gross and before they knew it, they had practically written the debut album. Nick said, “All the worlds collided between what Feldmann was already doing with his production style and where Travis wanted to go musically,”Nick explains.“It’s been really cool and went really quickly. We wrote close to 20 songs in just a few months.”

girlfriends brings the spirit of pop punk back to the forefront of music and seamlessly weaves in pure power pop groundwork from early CashCash and Boys Like Girls to 5SOS. With the help of John Feldmann, the record is catchy AF and an instant classic.
