Hunter Hayes “21 Tour” Stops at West Point, NY

Hunter Hayes chose the stops for his current headlining tour, the “21 Tour,” by selecting venues in college towns where his music was popular on Spotify streaming.  Hunter is all about connecting with his audience, and for this tour he wanted to have a more intimate show and to play in front of some of his most passionate fans.  His plan worked.  The “21 Tour” stopped at Eisenhower Hall in West Point, NY over the weekend, and it was by far the craziest crowd we have ever witnessed at a Hunter Hayes show!

P1360703
The packed house was full of energy from the moment Hunter walked out on stage, singing and dancing along to every song.  By the second song of the night, girls were up on cadet’s shoulders and rocking out.  Hunter’s epic guitar solo during “Secret Love” even inspired a little crowd surfing, something we never expected to see at a Hunter Hayes show!   (And we loved it.)

P1360045
Hunter is one of our favorite artists to see live because of the emphasis he puts on his live show.  Of the (many) times we have seen him, we have never heard him play the same song the same way twice.  He likes to mix it up, adding extended solos and new vocal stylings, or just jamming with his band.   He played material from the upcoming “The 21 Project,” along with some old favorites including “Where We Left Off,” which he dedicated to the troops.

P1360424
Hunter has shown lots of support for the military over the years, and took the time to thank and acknowledge the crowd, explaining what an honor it was for him to play at West Point.  And the love went both ways.  A spirited group of cadets in the front row gave Hunter & his band their hats to wear for a memorable moment on stage.

Hunter’s band got some much deserved love as well – after the crowd started chanting “dreads,” bass player Matt Utterback had his moment in the spotlight.

We have to thank Hunter for always mixing things up.  This was definitely one of the most memorable shows we’ve ever been to, from the beautiful & historic location to the insanely awesome crowd and of course the talented Mr. Hayes.   We can’t wait to see what he has in store next!

Hunter Hayes Releases “Where It All Begins” Featuring Tour Mates Lady Antebellum

We’re still recovering from the fangirl-fest that is the Wheels Up Tour!  One of the highlights of the show is when opening act Hunter Hayes joins Lady Antebellum on stage for a couple of tracks.  They took the collaboration one step further and are featured on Hunter’s new digital track, “Where It All Begins!”  We’d like to make a request they add this to the setlist for the next leg of the Wheels Up Tour!  (We’re going again, obvi).  The track comes just a couple of weeks after Hunter dropped his new single, “21,” and is the first of several digital tracks he will be dropping this Summer.  Listen below!

The Wheels Up Tour Lands at Jones Beach

A fangirl freakout definitely occurred when we  found out that two of our favorite artists, Sam Hunt and Hunter Hayes, would be on tour together this Summer!   Sam and Hunter are opening up for Lady Antebellum on the Wheels Up Tour, hitting cities across the US throughout the Summer.  We’ve been counting down the days since the tour was announced in January and finally got to check it out when it hit Jones Beach!

It was a perfect early Summer night for the first show of the season at Nikon Jones Beach Theater.  Sam Hunt got the evening started with hits like “Take Your Time” and “House Party,” and got the whole house on their feet.  He even came out into the crowd to sing and get up close and personal with some lucky fans!   Sam sure knows how to get the party started and leave the night on.

Hunter Hayes continues to impress us – every time we see him we are blown away by just how talented he is.  You can also tell just how much he loves music and loves performing.  Hunter makes sure that each live performance is a unique experience, and creates new arrangements with extended guitar solos and instrumentation.   We’ve seen him quite a few times now, and have never heard the same song played in the same way.   Hunter also incorporated some new skills, like beatboxing, and showed off his vocal range.

Hunter is also using his popularity for a good cause, and announced a campaign for the American Red Cross to go along with his new single, “21.”  He’s encouraging 21,000 fans to sign up to donate blood, even if it means conquering their fear of needles.  Read more about the #HH21SleevesUp Campaign!

Hunter Hayes Releases New Single “21”

Hunter Hayes created a frenzy among fans when he started posting blank photos on his social media.  What did it mean?!  Had his account been hacked?  He posted 21 photos exactly, followed days later by a 2 and a 1, and a countdown page on his website.  Looking back now, it all makes perfect sense.  Hunter just dropped his new single “21,” appropriately enough, since today is May 21st!  He’s been playing the track on the Wheels Up Tour with Lady Antebellum, and it’s the perfect upbeat jam for all those shows under the stars on a warm Summer night!  Listen to “21” below, streaming exclusively on Spotify!

We’re thrilled to have new music from Hunter, and can’t wait to see him on tour (a few times) this Summer!  “21” will be available on iTunes May 26th.  Click below to see all of the Wheels Up Tour Dates!

2014 Albums Of The Year

Taylor Swift wrote an outstanding piece in the Wall Street Journal over the summer about the future of music, where she wrote that “people are only buying [albums] that hit them like an arrow through the heart or have made them feel strong or allowed them to feel like they really aren’t alone in feeling so alone.”  We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.  Here are the albums in 2014 that hit us like an arrow through the heart.

1. Dan + Shay – “Where It All Began”
It’s rare and special to find an album where you listen to each and every song, and can sing along to from start to finish.  This album was by far our most played of the year, and the soundtrack to our 2014.  We’ll be able to look back at this year as “where it all began” for Dan + Shay, who have a very, very bright future ahead of them.  We can’t wait to see what’s next for the talented duo, starting with their 2nd major headlining tour in 2015.

2. Sam Hunt – “Montevallo”
We were lucky to have downloaded a copy of the “Behind The Pines” mixtape before Sam exploded over the summer with the release of his hit single “Leave The Night On.”  He released his full length debut, “Montevallo,” in October, opening at the top of the country charts, and third overall.  Sam’s unique style makes us excited about music.  His blend of a 90s R&B sound with country storytelling blends perfectly with Sam’s southern drawl, deep voice, and spoken lyrics.  He’ll be selling out arenas one day.

3. Hunter Hayes – “Storyline”
A sophomore album is always tricky, especially when your debut was nominated for a Grammy and countless other awards.  But Hunter managed to knock it out of the park.    The album is a more collaborative effort than his first, on which he played every single instrument.  Hunter’s music grabs you from the first listen.  We love how Hunter brings this album to life on tour, with unique arrangements for each song.   He’s the rare musician who makes his live show a full experience that stays with you long after the show.

4. The Strypes – “Snapshot”
“Snapshot” is another debut album that immediately got our attention and made us wonder where The Strypes had been all our lives.  Evidently they’d been honing their skills at pubs across their native Ireland, where they learned to play loud, fast aggressive, and just damn good old fashioned rhythm and blues.  And they’re all still in their teens.  There are no filler songs on the album – it’s solid from start to finish.  If you ever have the opportunity to see The Strypes live, don’t miss it.  Seeing the album come to life on stage was one of our favorite moments of the year.

5. Austin Mahone – “Secret”
Technically this is an EP, but at 8 tracks, it’s *almost* an album.  We fell for Austin’s sound with tracks like “What About Love” and “Banga Banga,” but this EP, with it’s 90s pop influences, cemented Austin’s status as the one man boyband.  We’re obsessed with the Britney and *NSYNC-esque slow breakdown in the title track, “Secret,” and couldn’t stop listening to “Next To You” on repeat for days.  Austin’s working on his much awaited full length debut with the legendary Max Martin (who wrote basically every great 90s pop song you can think of), and we can’t wait for more!

6. Jesse McCartney – “In Technicolor”
Possibly the most underrated album on this list.  His newest single, “Punch Drunk Recreation,” is a pop masterpiece.  Armed with a Justin Timberlake sound, and retro look, JMAC outdid himself with this album.  “In Technicolor” is one of those albums that will always be in style.

7. Nick & Knight – “Nick & Knight”
We admit that we’ll probably love anything that involves our favorite boybands – especially when two of our favorite members team up.   But Nick Carter and Jordan Knight’s album is a fun R&B/pop album worth checking out.

8. 5SOS – “5SOS”
It’s a safe bet that 5SOS are going to be extremely monumental in bringing pop punk back to a radio station near you!  We’ve had the band’s debut album on heavy rotation, and we don’t think we’ll stop playing it any time soon.  Also, can people please stop referring to them as a “boyband?”  These guys have the heart, drive, and sound to be restore Warped Tour to the glory days of 2006.

9. The Vamps – “Meet The Vamps”
While we had to wait for this album to be officially released in the United States, it was worth the wait!  The Vamps have an acoustic pop sound that makes you want to dance around your living room singing at the top of your lungs.

10. Walk The Moon – “Talking Is Hard”
With it’s December release, Walk The Moon’s sophomore album “Talking Is Hard” barely made our list.  The Ohio band celebrated by live tweeting with fans the first listen of the album, divulging secrets like “there’s a mess up in this part of the song” to “the weird lyrics are from this member!”  Walk The Moon are taking the album on a full headlining tour in the spring.  It’s not too late to hop on the dance jam bandwagon.
