Album Preview: Bearings – “Blue In The Dark”

Ottawa based pop punk band Bearings have had an incredible year and they’re getting ready to skyrocket their blend of bouncey emo rock into the stratosphere with their eagerly awaited debut full-length album Blue In The Dark due out October 12th on Pure Noise Records.  Since releasing the “Nothing Here Is Permanent” EP in September 2017, the quartet have quickly become one of the most buzzworthy bands in the underground pop punk scene.

Bearings’ debut album will hook you from the first song and have you singing along the entire time.  In an era where too many bands have resorted to a shorter record format with too much filler, Bearings are bringing back the “all killer, no filler” approach.

Each song on Blue In The Dark propels the record ahead and lyrically tugs on your heartstrings.  “Beautiful Places” tackles the feeling of not being enough, whatever that means to you, while “Stuck In A Doorframe” chugs along from the first note and is easily one of our favorites on the record.  Other stand out tracks on the records include the 90’s Alt Rock infused “Careless Clarity,” the dreamy, steel string acoustic “Tide,” and blissfully happy “Eyes Closed.”

Artist To Watch: Sleep On It

Sleep On It are on the verge of a break out and this is not a band you want to, pun intended, sleep on.  The Chicago natives are heading out on tour with As It Is this Spring, bringing their explosive pop punk to a city near you. Drawing inspiration from the heavy hitters of yesteryear that are out doing 10 year tours, Sleep On It are updating everything you thought you knew about the genre.

Having recently signed with Equal Vision Records, the band are finding a new home next to all of your favorite bands.   After forming in 2011 and going through several line up changes, Zech, TJ, Jake, AJ, and Luka are excited to share the trials and celebrations of being a pop punk band with new and old fans alike.  Sleep On It even added a tab on their galactic themed website where you can email the band and tell them where you’re seeing them on tour.  They just might answer you back!  We love the personal touches and direct to fan interactions that the band is using to help make their fans feel like a part the touring life.  Be sure to catch Sleep On It opening for UK fan favorites As It Is and ROAM this Spring!  Check out the tour dates here and get your tickets if you haven’t yet.

Sleep On It just released the official video for “Memorial Day” which is featured on the “Music For Everyone” ACLU compilation benefit project. The project showcases many different artists like Frank Iero (MCR), Taking Back Sunday, Kevin Devine, Allison Weiss, and Anti-Flag coming together as a unified voice for the ACLU.   Watch the video below.

Be sure to grab a copy of the “Lost Along The Way” EP on iTunes or Amazon now so you can sing along on tour!
