We’re thrilled to have Hunter back in New York, after his appearances on the Today Show and Arthur Ashe Kids Day last month! There have been a lot more country shows coming to NYC lately, too, and we say keep ’em coming!
Robert Schwartzman’s California Roll Tour kicks off tonight in Boston. We’re beyond excited for this tour – for starters, Robert has written some of our favorite songs of all time (both solo and as the front man of Rooney) and we haven’t seen him in ages! But the tour itself is something completely new and unexpected – he’s hosting it on a 30-passenger party bus. We literally have no idea what to expect from this show which definitely adds an extra air of excitement! So, in honor of the tour, here are our favorite Rooney songs! (It was nearly impossible to keep this to 5 songs).
1. “Blueside”
The band’s first official single. Bonus points if you caught Robert performing the song in “The Princess Diaries.”
2. “Popstars”
Robert is always ahead of his time – the lyrics of this song are even more relevant today than when it was released in 2003.
3. “I’m Shakin”
Hey man, do you know who sings this song? ROONEY!
4. “I Should’ve Been After You”
This song and video perfectly capture Rooney’s retro sounds.
5. “I Can’t Get Enough”
Warning: watching this video will make you want to go roller skating. (Luckily the revival of all things 90s lately has included roller rinks!)
Bonus #1: Robert Schwartzman – “Out Of My Mind”
Bonus #2: Solobob – “The Victim”
Robert’s first solo venture, and the greatest music video of all time.

Titanium recently topped the Top 40 charts in their native New Zealand. Watch the official video for “Take Us Back” below.

If you missed out, you’ll get an idea of what a fun act they are live – make sure you check them out on their next tour! (hopefully soon!)
Watch the video below! We love the range of influences you can hear in Rixton’s music – this track calls to mind a rocking version of Ace of Base.

As long as true musicians have existed within the television and movie realm, parody artists and even purely fictional bands can eventually turn into real recording artists! No genre is immune to this trickery either. Here is our list of our top five favorite fictional bands!
1. The Oneders
One hit wonders are nothing new and they will always be a strange phenomenon in the music industry and pop culture in general. “That Thing You Do!” follows the rise and fall of a one hit wonder band, The Oneders (Wonders). This is one of our favorite movies of all time and for the amount of times the song gets performed in this movie, it’s a WONDER we don’t get sick of it! (see what I did there?) On a serious note: if you are in a band, want to be in a band/the music industry, or even just love music…spend some time with this movie and remember that fame is fleeting but you can make the most of it while you have it. You guys look great in gold, have I told you that?
2. 2ge+her Was this band a joke? Yes. What their hit song catchy? Yes. Do we still catch ourselves singing it? Yes. Would we go see them on tour? DUH!! They caught us everything we need to know in life about math: You + Me = Us. Calculus.
3. Microbe
Zenon – Girl Of The 21st Century spawned one of the most awesome ideas for a pop star ever – to perform a concert in space! Protozoa, his band Microbe, and Zenon Karr team up and pull it off, in a true 1999 iconic DCOM. We know you can still sing all the words to “Supernova Girl.” Zoom zoom zoom makes my heart go boom boom…
4. Mario And The Brick Breakers (real life band – Patent Pending) They went from plumbers in Brooklyn to the biggest rock stars in the world. Then it all came crashing down. This 30-minute documentary follows the rise and fall of the band, Behind The Music style. You never think that a band of brothers will break up but obviously family isn’t always forever! Catch Patent Pending headlining their “Brighter UK Tour” this fall. Watch the Mario And The Brick Breakers trailer below.
5. Spinal Tap Contrary to popular belief, Spinal Tap is not actually a real band! They were completely formulated for the1984 mockumentry “This Is Spinal Tap” and oddly enough, the band took on a life of its own. Spinal Tap is still a huge pop culture phenomenon and we’re totally guilty of using their name as a verb before.
Patent Pending released the entire Mario & The Brick Breakers documentary today and it was totally worth the wait. The full 30 minute video follows the rise and fall of Mario & The Brick Breakers – kind of like Spinal Tap except with more spray tan. The Long Island native band fully committed themselves to this project and we’ve got to commend them for walking around New York in the winter with nothing more than short sleeves on. We give this documentary an 11 out of 10! Watch it below and share the link with everyone you know.
Pick up a copy of Mario & The Brick Breakers Greatest Hits on iTunes in the US and the UK now!
Patent Pending are also heading to the UK for the “Brighter UK” Headlining Tour in October. Check out the dates HERE.
