AJR Celebrate “Living Room” Release at Webster Hall

Indie pop band AJR released their debut album, Living Room, earlier this week, and celebrated with a concert at NYC’s Webster Hall last night.  The album has been a long time coming for brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan, who got their start by busking around New York.  Those experiences certainly influence their performing style – they’ve mastered the ability to win over a crowd with their energetic playing style.

AJR promised this wouldn’t be a typical show, and they had quite a few surprises in store last night.  Using a GoPro camera and a selfie stick, they filmed a music video for the fan favorite, “Woody Allen” during their set.  We can’t wait to see how it turned out!   They also took crowd interaction to a whole new level when they played their new single “Infinity.”  Drums were placed just in front of the stage, and Jack passed out drum sticks to the lucky fans in the front row so they could drum along with him.  He later jumped into the crowd after a serious drum-off between the three brothers during “Pitchfork Kids.”  They also invited surprise guest  Alex Wolff on stage to play guitar for “Big White Bed.”

They played every track off of “Living Room,” and the packed crowd was singing along to every word, even the Overture.  It was fun to see the album come to life on stage, and celebrate how far AJR has come.  “Living Room” showcases AJR’s wide range and unique sound – from the mellow “Growing Old On Bleecker Street” to “Big Idea,” with it’s layered loops and lightening fast verses.  We’re glad that “The Green And The Town” made the album, thanks to the support of their fans, as it’s one of our favorite tracks!

AJR’s Infinity Tour Stops At The Gramercy Theatre

AJR’s Infinity Tour had a hometown show in NYC on Sunday night at the Gramercy Theatre.   It’s been a while since their last headlining show in the city, and New York welcomed them back with open arms.  The tour is in support of AJR’s new single and EP, “Infinity.”  Their set included all of the tracks from the new EP, and some older favorites like “The World Is A Marble Heart” and “Livin’ On Love.”

With their smooth harmonies and a little brotherly banter, AJR kept the crowd engaged and dancing throughout the show.  The band is a lot of fun to watch live, especially during”Pitchfork Kids,” which featured a crazy drum off by Jack and Ryan.

The guys are especially talented when it comes to creating song mashups — a mix of R. Kelly’s “Ignition,” The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” and their own “I’m Ready” was a standout.

The show ended with a double encore, as Adam, Jack and Ryan went into the crowd with opening act Minor Soul for an acoustic singalong to “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, a throwback to their days spent busking around the city, where they honed their performance skills.

The show was also streamed on Yahoo! Screen with Live Nation.  If you have a chance to see AJR on tour, go!!!  The Infinity Tour is heading to Boston, Philly and upstate New York next.  Check out all of the dates here and pickup a copy of the Infinity EP on iTunes!

AJR To Release Infinity EP on September 23rd!

While we have to wait a bit longer for the release of AJR’s debut album, “Living Room,” we’ll still be getting some new music this month!  The indie pop trio, brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met, announced that they will release the “Infinity EP” on September 23rd.   The EP will feature their next single, “Infinity,” as well as fan favorites “Alice By The Hudson” and “3AM.”  There’s even a remix of their hit “I’m Ready” by the guys themselves. (Have you entered their remix contest yet?)  Check out the tracklisting below.  You can pre-order the EP on iTunes or Amazon now!

AJR “Infinity EP” Tracklisting
1. “Infinity”
2. “Alice By The Hudson”
3. “Pitchfork Kids”
4. “3AM”
5. “I’m Ready” (Remix by AJR)

AJR’s influences include Imagine Dragons, Kanye West, and the Beach Boys.  The band manages to sound like each one of them, and yet none of them at all, as they have a sound that’s all their own.   The brothers wrote, mixed, produced and recorded the songs on the EP from their living room in NYC.  One of our favorite tracks, “Alice By The Hudson,” sounds like a modern day version of “Surfer Girl.”  Watch a performance of the song below.

AJR will be heading out on tour this Fall, stay tuned for tour dates!  You can pickup a copy of the “I’m Ready EP” on iTunes or Amazon now.  Be sure to follow AJR & Secret Fangirls for more updates!
