Tennis Tuesday: News Roundup

This Week’s Tournaments:
China Open – Beijing, China
Rakuten Japan Open – Tokyo, Japan

Karen Khachanov Wins 1st Title in Chengdu
The 20-year-old Russian became the 3rd #NextGen player to win a title this year, after Nick Kyrgios (Marseille, Atlanta) and Sascha Zverev (St. Petersburg).   Khachanov defeated Feliciano Lopez, Victor Troicki and Albert Ramos-Vinolas en route to his maiden title.

Berdych Defends Title In Shenzhen
Tomas Berdych, in his second tournament back following a diagnosis of appendicitis that made him miss the US Open, defended his title at the Shenzhen Open.  Berdych defeated Richard Gasquet, also on the comeback, 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 6-3 in the finals.

Maria Sharapova Can Return in April 2017
The ruling for Maria Sharapova’s appeal of her 2 year ban was announced this morning.   Maria’s sentence was shortened to a 15 month ban, making her eligible to return to the tour on April 25, 2017.

Sascha vs Domi
We love the friendship between Dominic Thiem and Sascha Zverev.   Zverev beat Thiem for the first time this year today at the Beijing Open, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, after having lost to Thiem 3 times previously this year.  He also did this.  We can’t wait for Domi to get revenge! (on and off the court)

Dierks Bentley Announces “What The Hell” Tour With Cole Swindell and Jon Pardi

Dierks Bentley just announced he is heading back out on tour in 2017, and he’s bringing Cole Swindell and Jon Pardi with him!  The “What The Hell” Tour kicks off in January at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.   This lineup sounds like a BLAST!  Cole has always praised Dierks as one of his biggest influences, and the two teamed up for one of the best songs on Cole’s new album.  We hope they’ll play “Flatliner” together on tour!

While the full run of dates are yet to be announced, Dierks did reveal the cities the tour will be hitting.  Sadly, there are no dates in the Northeast to which we say “what the hell?”  But since the tour’s official name is the “What The Hell World Tour,” we hope that more dates are to come!  Be sure to visit Dierks.com for all the info.

O-Town Launch Kickstarter for New Album

We had the chance to see O-Town in 2016 at Mixtape Festival and were blown away by how incredible they looked and sounded.  Their set was SO MUCH FUN (who doesn’t love “Liquid Dreams”?), their outfits were on point (overalls + tie dye = yes), and the new material they played was excellent.  We’re excited to hear they are working on their 4th studio album after wrapping up their Summer tour with 98 Degrees.

O-Town launched an official Kickstarter campaign for the album, the first album in the band’s history to be free of any label, funded fully by fans for fans!  The campaign was a success – they met their goal in an incredible 7 hours!  You can still support the album campaign and earn prizes like the overalls Trevor wore on the My2K Tour, the chance to be their tour manager for a day, or a private O-Town concert.  And of course, you’ll get a copy of the new album when it’s released!  Head over to their Kickstarter page now to pledge your support for the future of boybands.
